People buy skins because they are one of the only ways riot gets its income, if everyone stopped buying skins then LoL would probably stop due to lack of funds.
Printable View
That's not the answer to his question. His question was why people buy them, not what would happen to the game if we stopped.
Don't say the 2 are connected, no one buys skins to keep Riot going, they buy them because they want them.
Have any of you been on a collegiate team for League of Legends? I'm an incoming freshmen and am thinking about joining the challenger 5s there at Irvine University. I'm wondering for those whom have actual experience in the matter.
I agree, it never crosses my mind that I'm keeping Riot going when I buy a skin. It's because I want the skin, I get enjoyment from playing the champion and want to keep the looks fresh, sometimes I just think a skin looks great and I'll get it if I play the champ at least semi often. I could get the program to unlock skins locally, but I also enjoy the community aspect, with other people seeing the skin I'm using and vice versa.
I do like that you don't buy any ingame power advantages with cash, that's one reason why I'm actually happy to keep putting money into the game for skins. I never unlocked a character with RP either, only skins. Can't wait to get the victorious Morgana after this season too!
Not sure where to post this, figured this would be the best place.
Looking to teach a Silver V - Gold V on the ways of the jungle Lee Sin.
Currently Diamond 2, Gold 2, Silver V. (Smurf accounts to play with not-as-good friends).
Recently just hit my promotion series on D3 and got to D2 using my Lee Sin Jungle.
As they say "If you're able to teach it, then you really know it", so wanting to find out how well I know the champ.
I would be teaching you everything from runes, masteries, build options, where to go when, when to dragon, when to baron, "The Insec", and such things a Lee Sin needs to know.
Add me on skype if your interested, I would only like people who honestly have a love for Lee Sin like I do, because if you don't love the champ, then you will not be able to play him to his max.
Skype: Sinthed
P.S. I plan on starting a seperate thread to teach misc champion basics, such as what runes and masteries, opt outs/ins for builds, and basic mechanics. Hoping to help as many people out as I can, as I was taught by a D1 and just hoping to spread the joy of teaching.
I can understand you've deleted my other post when i talked about the bot program answering another guy, I gave a link for more information (not for any other thing) but well, can be used with bad intentions so nothing to say..
Now @Riizq talks about MK Jogo and I just answer I use it and why, i'm not advertising it in any way so I don't understand what's wrong with you, i'm not doing nothing ilegal to the rules, just talking about the same as you and the other people and giving my opinion.
I love the skins but I find Riot prizes really expensive, that's why I only have 3 of my main champs gifted by some friends. I use the rest with a skin client side program, I'm the only one who see them and that's enough for me so I'm not taking advantage of other people who likes to show their skins.
I also think they look great and I love to have some of them of my main champs but the RP's are really expensive, can't understand how a fucking skin which is nothing of the other world can cost 20€ for example..
Sometimes it feels like buying eggs and throwing them.
I cannot afford that.
And using a skin changer program is absolutely fine. I mean there is a site where you can download custom skins and wear them on your champion.
Though I have to say this, changing a skin and playing that champion really changes the way we play the game. It brings joy when we play a champion with our favorite skin on.
I only put about £5 a month into it maximum, but I know what you mean. I typically wait for champs I like to have skin sales, then I snap them up cheaper. Also it depend son your situation, £20/20eu isn't really a lot of money, it wont last you long buying food etc, but it becomes a lot when you don't have it spare.
An unfortunate "elitist" side effect we see in many games.
Not so much of an 'elitist' side effect, just not caring. If I go into a D2 Ranked game and don't have my skin, that puts me into a 'sad' mode, where everything I did that game would be a more 'depressed' play, and I would not be my potential, making the entire game a bad one, for me, and my team. As to if I would just leave, and try again later, my team already know's they are going to lose. Its at this point where they are able to have just pure fun, or practice something on the champ they normally wouldn't be able to normally, such as a odd build.
Is not about the money, I would spend 20€ if I know i'm going to have 5 or 6 pretty nice skins of my main champs but i'm not going to waste 20€ for one fucking skin which is nothing of the other world, you do lots of things in some other games with that money..
I just find expensive most of the skins, its ridiculous to pay 15€ or 20€ for a skin, can't understand it.
So your saying me buying every 3250 skin(Ultimate skins) even though I dont play them isnt worth? I refuse to accept this.
It's 100% elitist. "Something isn't going right, so there's no point in trying", it results in either the player leaving and ruining the game, or worse, trolling through communication or otherwise, which ruins the game. You don't need to be good to have that attitude, but you need to have the attitude that "everything must be right for me to play", something that is impossible for a new player as they don't really have an idea of what is going right, or wrong, even if the "wrong" thing is something superficial like a skin.
You say it yourself, not having a skin makes you play worse, or at least perceive the game to be going worse. It's a psychological thing that happens in all multiplayer games, although it takes different forms depending on the game. Personally I think it's absolutely rediculous to stop playing because of a skin choice, or lack thereof. Someone feels like they really know the game (elitist) but for a small inconsequential thing (skin choice) they become apathetic and ruin others experience because they simply don't care.
I don't buy the "it's ok they can have fun now" angle, people can try new builds and crazy things all day long in non-ranked modes. I really dislike the attitude of someone who starts a game that could last up to an hour, with 9 other people, then leaves before that commitment. It's a selfish douchebag move, like playing the game with a different, god forbid even vanilla skin.
I do agree it's not an elitist side effect, otherwise everyone with some knowledge and skill would behave in the same strange way. Thankfully they don't and game leavers are a minority, but the game would be better with less time wasters.
I don't usually buy RP except for starter champion pack (the one with Goth Annie) but few days ago I went for shopping in local ASDA and I noticed £9 RP top-up cards :D
Never seen one in real life (small town I guess) so I couldn't help myself and I grabbed two, for myself and one for a good friend.
Not even sure what to spend it on yet xD
If I buy the starters packs, I will actually only pay for the skin. :P
I bought quite a lot of skins, always on sale if possible, so exceptions are christmas etc skins that will never go on sale. I have no legendary or ultimate skins, the price puts me off, even though I really love Battlecast Cho'Gath.
The money doesn't really bother me, I don't make huge amounts, but the prices aren't that high really, a skin on sale is like 2,50 euro, you could argue that's a lot, but a beer costs the same or more. And I don't buy several of them in an evening either, instead I buy a skin now every few weeks (though this is also because I got skins for most of my played champions by now).
Also consider the hours I've put in it, basically when I buy a game, I will pay 1 euro at most per hour I will spend on it, so single player games that will probably only net me about 20 hours, will only be bought when they are 20 or lower, probably lower though. But yeah that's the absolute max I'm willing to pay. I've played like 2000 games of League, so roughly 1000 hours, so yeah buying some skins for 2,50, really does not bother me at all.
As for leaving for not having the right skins... really... that's really sad, and really trolling everyone in the game. Grab a post-it next time, draw your favourite skin, put it in the middle of your screen and press Y.
I think a lock screen jungler would be more of a troll then leaving because you do not have your skin. Especially on certain few champs, who rely entirely to land their kit, J4, Lee, Hecarim, Rengar, Nasus, Shaco, Vi, and probably many more.
But thats irrelevant.
No, just no. There is only 2 kind of players that are worse than a leaver, which is a intentional feeder and a person who should go afk because they keep flaming the hell out of the team.
Now if you tell me that you are going fucking apeshit on people because you got the wrong skin, well let's say I got some professional advice for you...
It all depends on the person tbh. I clearly dont see the reason of leaving the game because of someone not having a skin.
Wont be leaving Silver 5 anytime soon -.-
Love the way gold and silver don't decay any more :)
At last Soraka is much more viable, also Janna is coming more in favor which is slightly annoying me because now I am seeing more Jannas and normally I see none, main janna support.
Yeah how did she become popular again? Did she get buffed?
I always loved her, but she fell out of favor somehow.
I'm not sure that I like the new Soraka. Actually I do like the new Soraka, I just don't like loosing the old Soraka. I would have much rather seen this Soraka as a new support.
The new Soraka is much better in fights, she can get hers heals out much more often but with the downside of you losing your own health. I have been at almost 0 hp while playing Soraka so many times because I don't expect the drop in HP so much, 10% is a lot. Also her AOE silence is very helpful.
She's definitely stronger lategame, just don't like her as much in lane. Her heal with armor was really good in lane, the extra mana did wonders on quite a few ADC's and you really didn't need the aoe silence. Lategame that dropped off. So it's really a trade for early to late game.
I like the fact she has more CC now so she can keep up to par with other supports. But I do the notice the difference without the armor, it did make that little extra difference.
I rarely touch soraka for ranks before her rework, but now. It's just so awesome to kill off AP carries and engage AD / tanks w/ a perfectly timed AOE silence.
a few example would be:
SS Kat? Nope
Follow up on Malphy's SS? Nope
You wanna escape LS? Nope
WW suppress? Nope.
just all nopes w/ this supp
I actually disagree that her early game phase is weaker now. I don't take W til lvl 5 ~ 7 since it scales w/ HP and I let my teammates know about this.
And focus my early game, harassing the ADC w/ Q and playing safely w/ E. But never really upgrade Q after picking it up.. maxing W & E simultaneously
Below is only my opinion on the rework (support only really):
If we are talking about Soraka's potential as a support, I think it only went up with this rework. Her kit gained a lot of utility with the changes to her mechanics.
The root of the new Soraka's kit lies in the player's ability to control a fight through healing and shutting down casters. She has gained a lot of strength in the team-fight portion of the game compared to the old Soraka just due to her crowd control becoming stronger and more versatile. I think these strengths are also applicable to lane phase. Soraka has the ability to shut down two sources of damage for a short enough period of time so you and your carry can get a few extra autos or spells off on your opponent and win trades. These trades can eventually snowball if your lane opponents do not have the ability to sustain in lane reasonably well (perhaps making LS important again if Soraka becomes popular).
The easiest way to mitigate her kit is to simply dodge her Q. However, this skill shot is not difficult to land on targets with very low movement speed: most ADCs do not have movement speed quints or a cheap enough ability to dodge her Q early on (Lucian's dash is getting nerfed this upcoming patch - 4.18). However, once she hit 6, she has a pretty strong global presence like the old Soraka did.
My opinions on her reworked kit:
Passive: The movement speed bonus actually helps a lot when you want to make plays. You can even use this to make a quick escape out of a fight if things go south. This mechanism of escape is highly reliant upon the ADC having an escape which you can then piggyback off of. She can also use this to get to a teammate and turn a fight after ensuring that the teammate survives.
Q: Her old Q is definitely stronger than this new one (at least what it did on paper). While the prior statement may be true, her Q is still the bread and butter of her kit. The only up side to this Q is that the AoE damage is decent enough and that it has a slow and increased damage if the enemy ends up in the center somehow (which can combo off teammate's CC or the root portion of her E nicely if executed properly). This skill is highly dependent upon the individual player's ability to make it effective. Her Q is also tied into her new W.
W: This new heal is actually really great in my opinion. There is enough risk and reward to this mechanic that it makes Soraka players have to make decisions: it is very much a double-edged sword. The passive effect that restores health on landing a Q on an enemy champion helps Soraka deal with this cost.
E: This skill is actually incredibly strong. It has the power to turn a fight and win trades against ADCs and casters that rely on their abilities in the early laning phase by completely shutting down their ability to fight back for a short period of time. I have personally seen situations where a well placed E shut down the enemy from all-in-ing my AD and I in lane. This also applies in team fights: she has the ability to turn a fight by making the casters on the enemy team momentarily useless. Also, the root should pretty much never happen unless it is part of a chain CC or your opponent simply had no idea about it (which kind of goes against a normal reaction of being silenced - "I better get out of this").
R: Her ultimate is pretty much the same as before except that it got a slight buff. This skill has always been very strong since it gives global presence just by Soraka being level 6.
Some strengths:
- When positioned properly, she is one of the most annoying supports in lane to deal with in the meta (due to the large amount of ADC and support combos that rely on their spells to do damage rather than just autos).
- She has great global presence with her ultimate.
- She is a high risk-high reward champion that can swing fights with her very strong CC.
- Her kit is decently versatile to many different situations she could possibly be faced with.
Some weaknesses:
- If you dodge her Q, she cannot restore health and she has no real means of getting safer poke off you until the CD is up (the spell is not on a very short cooldown compared to her old Q).
- She is heavily reliant on positioning and player skill (and almost certainly has a bigger skill cap than the old Soraka).
- If focused, she will die rather quickly.
Ok so Sion got reworked big time.
So they changed his skin, at first I thought it was a new skin, but it's default, which I don't get, why not just rework it instead and release the other 1 as a new skin?
And his skills makes me feel the same, why change it so much, why not release a new champ with those skills? Sion definitely saw some play, more than quite a few others, so I'd much rather see a new champ instead of basically removing a champ.
Sion sucks now imo. Loved his stun, but enough of that; THE SKINS!!! (original skins)
Spoiler:
Well done Rito, well done. Wukong one is the only one i feel a little effy about, but from Janna's hair to Janna's body, i think they did a fabulous Janna job.
i love the new talon splash art, it's got so much detail and really captures what talon is.
The oldest skin now is Katarina? I know that wasnt her first, but I think its the oldest now. Or wait, probably its Warwick
Alistar and Fiddlesticks splash arts are pretty new compared to Anivia and Gragas
Spoiler:
but yea Warwick is the oldest now, but there are a few that need to be updated http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_champions
WW, Eve, Anivia, Rammus, Taric, Kat, corki, poppy, grag, kennen, xin, irelia, maokai, etc etc
Yea I wanna see the new Irelia original splash art as soon as possible, they did a great job with the new one of her Nightblade skin and now is my favourite one of the game, just beautiful!
http://www.leaguesplash.com/wp-conte...adeIrelia2.jpg
Damn the new splash arts are amazing!!
Though a few korean splash arts are much better than NA's
After 50 hours of grinding in silver I finally made it to gold 6 days before the rewards. Cheers:blushing:
I wanted to make a push for plat and I honestly believe I can do it but the end of season ranked has been full of trolls, with ragers and afkers a'plenty. I've been helping a bunch of mates get from silver to gold, being able to dodge the game without losing my league has been handy for us a few times :P
Gold was my target this season so I'm happy with the result, plus I love morgana so the skin is a big bonus for me. Next season I'll push for Plat.
What's peoples thoughts on the new summoners rift, I love all the little details, love the litter critters dotted around the map.
it looks like the splash arts now; a lot more smoother. Im going to have to relearn some of the areas where you can jump over the wall, since the updates removed the "markings" I was use to.
I really like the new map. Little things like bushes in slightly better positions for warding, and I love the new jungle creeps. Can't wait until it has the full updates live with reworked dragon and baron buffs etc
I definitely like it as well, what I guess like most, is that when I saw it on streams, I was just like, this looks so different, it's gonna be annoying to get used to, but once you're fighting, you forget all about it, it looks right. But yeah, the flashing can be a bit annoying, completely flashing wrong because you think you are in the right spot, while you are way off, is something to get used to. :P
I also really like the new summoners rift, my friends are not really happy with it because they don't have good PC's and they think now it looks like dota, so different and bla bla bla. I bought a new gaming PC recently and quality and performance with the new map are perfect and I bet that difference should be high with medium-low end ones and that's why they complain.
I love the design in general, it looks new and updated compared to the old one. Everything looks awesome but I think next patchs will be hard for everyone to get used, new jungle items, buffs and everything related will modify the meta and the strategy of game a lot (hope the best).
Just one question, can you jump over all the walls that could be jumped in the old map? I had some troubles trying it with some ADC's like Graves on the wall next to frog and blue on purple side but not sure if I just failed cause of visual updates or something internal really changed.
If it's the last thing Riven players like me will suffer a bit getting used with new map :(
Nah. The areas to jump over have not changed; just the visual area. I main Riven and can jump all the walls I used to be able to in the last patch. The new jungle items willl make a good amount of champs to be more viable (might even help out my Riven jungle, but I doubt)
Next season my goal is to get to diamond. Platnium will not satisfy me! I'm probably gonna grind when I have long breaks
this patch may have killed riven jungle... the damage needed to kill these monsters + the sustain... going to need to try all the jungle items before I give up, but I didnt really think this update would be soo negative to her jungle
I really liked the new splash art for Ahri, however they not using it. Slightly annoying.
Just got kalista recently and loving her. She such an active auto attacking champ, really love the style.
Sadly jungle is pretty easy now. Gonna try ADC for kicks, but against bots. Ganking early is alot harder now if you dont have a way to save your HP
It does look good, but it could be better. There are a lot of fan made art that looks better
Riven jungle is fun still :D:
Riot started a new skin line. Dauntless, like championship, same sort of style however red instead of blue. Championship skins are to celebrate the end of the season. Dauntless will be released at the start of seasons, to celebrate the start of the season.
First Dauntless skin:
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-CwogLPr-X1...1600/ahri2.jpg
I don't actually like it.
6/10 not bad but not good
I know its a bit late...but im an OCE player :)

2nd role? Mid
Most played this season:

2. Jinx
3. Shyvana
What's everyone's goals for Season 5, realistically. Of course I want to get to Challenger  but that won't happen so I am aiming for Gold and want to start learning the jungle role and more junglers. It is what I lacked last season and seems like a major role where you can win... and lose games.
My goal for Season 5 is get Diamond , got Gold last one and I was really happy because I thought I'd be forever in the toxic and unbrained silver league. Right now i'm in Platinum II because I've improved a lot and I got an awesome row at the start of the season carrying as Top/Jungler.
In any case can't arrive to my dream atm, lost +10 rankeds this weekend playing with afk's and toxic kids vs ex-diamonds and my elo should be fucked, got depromoted to Platinum III. With 80% of ex-diamond players in Platinum right now most of times is luck so with my horrible row i'm angry and I'll stop to play ranked for some time.
Forgetting this recently things i'm happy cause I've got Platinum pretty easy and I improved a lot winning some interesting and difficult games so soon or later I'll get Diamond.
I'm very competitive and get Diamond is just a challenge/dream for me, will fight a lot for it and go even far away.
Ok, so last season I ended Gold 5. This season I went 9-1 during placements and I'm currently wrecking Plat. Holy shit this game is easy.
Wonder why it's so hard to get out of gold, but easier to climb plat? Most people pay for eloboost to gold, just for the victorious skins, and then end up ruining the games for players who actually try. I don't believe elo-hell excists, but elo-prison definitely does.
EUW
Primary: ADC
Secondary: Mid, Sup, Jungle
Most played champs:
Vayne 650+
Lucian 150+
Draven 150+
In Season 4 I was Diamond 5. But now during placements in each game I had to play with boosted flamers so I wasn't able to carry them in all games so I lost 5 games. It places me into Platinum 5 :D: After few wins I get on promo, I won first 2 matches and I am in Platinum 3 now.
I am maining jungle, but I also like to play as support (if I am not playing with some retarded kid on the lane). Last 3 games I carried hard my team as Braum :):
So the new gamemode is out... What's your thoughts?
I got some fun champions from the picks and have actually started playing them in normal because I did so well with them on the game mode. It's not the best gamemode they have made >.> URF COME BACK!
Terrible, non-rewarding, rage inducing.
Add me: RoastedCats - EUW server
In my opinion this is the worst game mode they ever made. So much afkers and flamers here.
And yes, I hope one day I will open LoL and in game modes will be URF :):
Btw, I am looking for some teammates for ranked team matches (EUNE, at least Platinum IV). You can contact me here via PM or add me on skype/LoL, nick is everywhere same as here.
People shouldn't go into the mode without a sense of humour! Just played my 1st Nemesis Draft and got Braum, first time playing him my lane partner was Zilean, we were against a Nami and Hecarim combo. We monster mashed them, we were both level 6 when they both hit 3 xD
Slowly climbing to Lv30. I think this is the best game I've honestly ever had. They didn't even surrender!
http://i.gyazo.com/e70a3bacfaf8af7158b348409fe69fb1.png
Fuck, my ranked restriction is holding me back from challenjour, gg.
Climbing my way up to Gold again, started off in bronze in Season 5.
New roaming support, what's your guys thoughts?
He looks really fun! Very different style of play to other champions, very unique.
Lovely but the ultimate is not a good idea because people can troll really easy with it.. Ex: Zed lands ultimate on someone, you ult on him and he's really fucked cause he can't deal any dmg. You can also do it when a team mate is going to kill someone to troll and let the enemy scape, etc, etc
I know is really dumb to use it in that ways but I watched millions of times how unbrained can be people in this game.. That's why it should be something like Kalista ult to avoid the troll..
You are right... It will be the best trolling champ probably cause of his ultimate. Anyways, it's seems interesting, but I would like to know, what will happens, if Anivia will place on the end of his tunnel her Ice Wall or what's the name of this spell. Champions will get stuck in tunnel until Anivia's wall will disappear or they will stuck in tunnel until the game will end? :D:
I agree that Bard will create problems for some people :P
Personally I can't wait to play him!
Seems like MYM is getting heat DailyDot article
And the Graves game was a DC game cause my area had a blackout. I came back 10 mins in, my cs wouldn't be that horrible....

And the Graves game was a DC game cause my area had a blackout. I came back 10 mins in, my cs wouldn't be that horrible....
Welp, reached Plat tier. Currently sitting at Plat IV. This game is easy.
Just played a 1hr and 15min match in ranked. I DCed because of my internet at around 15min~20min mark. Super close game, my butt was hurting and everyone was nice. I was Jinx because I didn't notice Vayne in the beginning so I decided to go top. Here's the match overview. You'll see I have no items at the end, I sold them all and ended with 16k.
U.R.F is finally back!
Let the fun and mayhem begin.
Good they tweaked a few champions so everyone is playable.
I missed urf last time, just had my first game, it's crazy!
Decided the other day that I should move to LAN after trying it out(had 31ms~35ms ping) and it was nice. Played 1 ranked game, no one even warded as I was the only one who did. Keep in mind, this is B4 as I was B3 in NA. After that game, I decided to move back and thought it was a horrible idea. 40$ well spent imo.
Played U.R.F. a couple of times, however it feels less fun. Can't put my finger on why, haven't played it again.
AD FIZZ - with the new changes to his passive again making his W do passive %% health, you no longer need to waste mana at early levels to get the damage off in the jungle, therefore allowing you to gank pre6. AD FIZZ JUNGARUUUU
AD Fizz was already quite strong, that's quite a buff. I love how the META keeps changing most of the time.
Honestly, I quite hate it atm. The current meta for Top/Jungle, is tank. Almost consistently every game you have to be tanky. Thats coming from a D5-D3 point of view. The only Jungle ive played as of late that can build pure damage is Fizz(In both Normals and Twisted). Between BOTRK, and his W passive, makes him a fearful opponet to both tanks and squishies.
Then to Twisted treeline, ive noticed Talon making a comeback in it. Not sure why, but going full armor pen, and challenging smite is quite fun. Pop your ulti with full armor pen + Challenging smite, extremely fun. Fizz is also quite common jungler in 3's currently for the same reason above.
The reason I hate this, is ive always been a person that builds raw flat damage. Rengar, riven, jayce, ad fizz, talon, fiddle, ad malz, yi, etc. They just arnt in the current meta, and it makes playing quite hard for me. Just recently started playing 3's again, plan on starting up a team with a few buds and aiming for masters.
I've got mixed feelings about the current meta, but it suits me bot lane with less assassins coming from the jungle to put their thumb up my butt.
Played my first promos to get out of B3. I feel as if I did good since I got 2 double kills and some good team fight moments. We successfully got 3 dragons and 2 barons in the time span of the game. Towards the beginning, I thought I was going to have a not so good game since it was Trist and Thresh on the bottom lane w/ myself(Cait) and Blitz. But, I was ok. Here's the link to the match.
could anyone explain the Kennen support trend? I've seen some pros spam it recently in soloq.
I play him top lane sometimes but I can't see how he's a better support option than the current meta ones(Annie, Morgana, Janna, Thresh, Leona, etc)
I mean, his poke is great but no smart adc will let his Q hit you that often, not to mention his unreliable stun.
then he has that lv 6 teamfight potential, but then again, there are supports who just do better in any aspect.
not to mention his damage is heavily item dependent
