    Recruit-A-Friend

So i've been playing World of Warcraft for a while now and wanted someone from here to come and play with me. In doing so we would use the WoW service called 'Recruit a Friend'. In this service, if in a party together, we would get a 300%(questing and killing monsters up to level 80) experience bonus and we would be able to summon each other from nearly anywhere in the world. In addition to guild exp(10% experience gain from questing and killing monsters) we would have 310% experience. You can refer here if you have any questions about the service. Recruit a Friend

If anyone is interested, I am online about 12-14 hours a day. [I do have additional characters I can level, so if you are offline I wouldn't go on without you.]
We would be on either Tichondrius(Maybe) or Draka. (Realms) [Perhaps both if you care to make more than one character and class with me]
We would be on the Alliance(Draka) and Horde (Tichondrius), I don't care which race or class.
We would start as soon as possible.
You would have to commit to it, I would prefer it if the person got on for about a day and quit. I am hoping to start a new character with you and get it to 85.
I would prefer if you were fun to talk to, someone I can talk to easily.
I am a hardcore player so I am on a lot and I level very quickly, be prepared to go addict mode. /ridi
I would start you off with 200 gold and (4x) 16 slot bags.

If you are interested, please post here with your MSN.

(World of Warcraft has a 15$ monthly subscription fee, there are discounts if you purchase more months at a time. The 10 day free trial will allow you to get to level 20, and you will be restricted in some aspects of the game. To get past level 20 and get almost full access of the game, you will need to purchase the original(vanilla) WoW, which as of now (if you purchase the "World of Warcraft® Battle Chest®" [Which by the way is the same price as the original WoW] you will get Original WoW[This will allow you to level to 60] and Burning Crusade expansion[Will allow you to level to 70]) is 20$. Wrath of the Lich King expansion [this will allow you to level to 80] is 40$. And finally, Cataclysm expansion[this will allow you to level to 85] is 40$. Note: These prices are always subject to change.

I realize that I posted this before in another section, mods can delete that one for me please.this

What size is the game these days? I don't have a particularly fast download speed, so I try to avoid large games.
I've always been keen to try out WoW, (I don't know why, I've heard so many bad things about it) but I've never really been arsed to get a trial or pay for it.

If we are in a party together we will get TRIPLE the experience points, if we are in 100 yards of each other. We will be able to summon each other while partied, with a 1 hour cooldown.

Refer to this for more info.

Sounds cool, huh? If you are interested, pm me. I am very active and level pretty fast.

The download and installing barely takes any time at all. The patch is just really big though.

    Yeah, the normal version.

Ah, I think I'm going to pass. 20 gigs is a lot in terms of a game. It'll take me days to download.

Whatever you say, but I have a pretty bad download speed also. I have like 500kb/s and it took me 30 seconds to download the installer. The installer took barely any time at all. On top of that, WoW developed a new patcher that allows you to patch items while in game. You have to patch maybe 5 gigs before you can go in game? Not completely sure. Anyways, its fairly easy to dl/install/patch.

    Re: Recruit-A-Friend

There is something called the 'World of Warcraft® Battle Chest®' which comes with "WORLD OF WARCRAFT COMPLETE GAME
WORLD OF WARCRAFT EXPANSION: THE BURNING CRUSADE COMPLETE GAME
WORLD OF WARCRAFT STRATEGY GUIDE FROM BRADY GAMES
WORLD OF WARCRAFT EXPANSION: THE BURNING CRUSADE STRATEGY GUIDE FROM BRADY GAMES" for only 20$. (The original game sells for 20$)(This saves you money spending for an expansion pack- The burning Crusade). Then 15$/month for one month. 90 days for $41.97. 180 days for 77.94$. Wotlk is 40$ and Cata is 40$.

I would suggest getting the battle chest with a 1 month. Or just the original game and a 1 month sub, see if you like it and buy expansions, more game time etc etc.

That's a horrible idea Blizzard did for ppl with poor connection and/or slow speeds.

Also the full install is around 26gigs PLUS you need about 7 to 10gb of Cache space; so the total is around 34gb big.

Then you clearly don't understand it.

Basically you download the barebones of the client, the character models and the main artwork and interface etc. Then you can play the game straight away. It means people with slow connections an play in an hour instead of days. Once you are ingame you are then downloading the new data as it is needed. Zone into an instance? It will take longer for you to load as it needs to download it first. It splits the front end capital time investment to basically nothing, and adds it back in, in small chunks when you need it.

I personally wish more games would do the same.
Release of a new 500mb patch? No problem, you can still log in straight after its downloaded the critical files, and download the rest while playing.

Blizz really could of done a better job on file systems though lol, compress the shit out of their stuff the client is rather large when it shouldn't be. But yes the ingame updates are nice.

You can use the Streaming client - i.e., It's a small download itself, and it downloads as your play... it first downloads the areas you're in... and while you're questing in them areas or w/e, it downloads w/e in the background.

    Pretty good.

Is there any point to that though? It's a big trade off because at some point you need to decompress the data which takes processing time. File storage is very very cheap now, £50 for 2TB, if WoW is around 20GB that's ~50p to store it. It's very little when compared to upgrading a processor in order to deal with the increased load time. Not to mention the extracted files would need to be stored in RAM which is also much more expensive that HDD space.

Compression is the enemy of load times, and most people would rather pay more upfront and to not be inconvenienced when it matters. For the same reason people get faster internet connections really. (I <3 my fibre optic)

I wouldn't suggest playing WoW. Not only is it like crack but it's a dying MMORPG. If you're really keen on playing a game try out Rift.

I'm in-game AND downloading as we speak. It doesn't lagg at all, but as Robert said it does take a little longer to enter an instance for example.

On top of that, my internet speed sucks at the moment (barely 300kb/s).

Playing on Thunderhorn (H), in case anyone is intressted.

300kb is still pretty damm good...

You only need 150kb to fast load a 10minute 480p video.

What I'm speaking out for is for people with net below 150kb...

Slow connections handle WoW well without lag. The load times of instances and similar are just longer.
