Is it hard to level?
I played the beta, but I hate the combat system. So I haven't bothered with it after that.
It turns out I know someone working on the game. I still think it's going to do terribly because the company is doing so many things fundamentally backwards. WoW is a fluke. It only blew up in popularity after it was dumbed down and it remains one of the only MMOs ever made that has remained profitable for more than a few years with a pay to play system. It is very much so the exception to the rule. Rift's makers apparently do not see this trend and its initial swell appears to be smaller than recent similar "wow-busting games" that claimed to have many people leaving WoW to play them.. and they all quickly fell to marginal profitability after 90% of their initial players left and went back to WoW or whatever else. As long as companies keep thinking this "buy the client AND subscribe to play" methodology is a successful one, we're unlikely to get a stable and good MMO. Also, it appears you can't break a few million subscribers without simplifying your game so that a casual player can be equivalent to a hardcore player outside of super high level PvP. Which is sad, and hopefully a trend that isn't followed.
This game got certain parts that do look WoW. Need to play beta first, before I preorder it.

I actually find no similarities between rift and warcraft, it strictly is a warhammer clone. I loved warhammer myself, it seemed more "adult".
Actually there are a few similarities for example the layout of the skill bar, the 3 skills on the right (just different colors and altered slightly). But it's hard to think up any different ways to lay that out or make new icons that some other MMORPG hasnt thought of yet so i suppose you are right.Quote:

I hate it already, this is second time this error #1003 appeared while downloading the client, after that error it runs full file check, which takes about 15 minutes, after that check it says "full re-download necessary", when you click yes, it does that 15 minutes check AGAIN and after that it finally continues with download.
Also downloading speed is going up and down as it please.. Might take a few more hours before it finally finish.
I wouldn't class the GUI as a similarity simply because its a standard procedure. Just pre-ordered rift for £25 w/ game. It gives you some free goodies.

Apparently it's shortcut to file that doesn't exists, file that should be in "%APPDATA%\Trion Worlds\Rift\rift.cfg"

So I could actually use the Trion Worlds folder from your C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Roaming

so it seems that my rift.cfg is in "%APPDATA%\RIFT\rift.cfg" instead of "%APPDATA%\Trion Worlds\Rift\rift.cfg", changed it, now trying the recover button though.. srsly pain in the arse this game

apparently that rift.cfg.lnk changes itself when I run the updater, so can't change its path so I rather created the config file where it wanted it..

The GUI didn't look very nice, but the game itself looked rather nice actually, quality appealed to me, might check it out in the future when I have more time.
If you would class it on a scale of 1-10, what would you set? Comparing to games like, Aion, WoW, or whatever you play on a regular basis.

I'm seeing people are having problems with their downloads resetting and I'm not sure if people have responded to the threads for the fix. I had same problem in beta 4 but figured out the fix for it.
If your download is interrupted in anyway and is restarted on a new day than the original download, it tries to start you from 0% downloaded again. This is because each day a new folder for the download is created.
In your Rift folder there is another folder called DOWNLOAD. In this folder you may see several folders. They will each be dated differently. If you mouse over you will see one of those folders contain a huge chunk of your previous download. IE. the 5gigs one poster said they go to.
Change the name of the folder with the most data downloaded to the name of the folder stuff is trying to be added to. If you have more than 2 folders it is easier to delete all folders EXCEPT THE ONE that has the biggest size and start your patcher. Another folder will add. Stop the download and copy the name of the new folder and delete that folder, and name the original download folder (the one with the big size) to the same name. This will allow the patcher to recognize the amount you downloaded before and continue from there.
To recap:
1. Go to Rift folder and downloads. Figure out which folder has the largest amount downloaded into it.
2. If more than 2 folders exist, delete the other folders that ARE NOT the large file one.
3. Run patcher till it starts to download from 0% and stop it.
4. Take the name of the folder created by patcher and rename the large size folder to that name, deleting the new folder the patcher created.
5. Run patcher again and it will pick up from what you actually downloaded previously.
Also may want to run a media file on loop so your network card doesn't go to sleep.
