The Dream Cast went under beacuse they didnt market Japen good enough. Also beacuse they had no dvd player. So when the ps2 came out with a fairly good price tag/ DVD player it made the people in japen want it. Making the lack of dreamcasts not sold.

I personally liked the dreamcast more than the playstation 2. The controller felt more natural in my hands, and I liked the titles... Maybe because I wasn't raised on the NES and the FF series... I grew up with the Genesis.

But, as said before, the Xbox 360 won't cause Microsoft to go under like Sega did, simply because of Microsoft's cash reserves and business machine might.

I don't personally own a Nintendo Gamecube or Sony Playstation 2, because I don't like a majority of the titles released for them. (also the playstation controller kills my hands, and isn't made for playing FPSes.) I have an Xbox, because I like the games better. Sure I don't care for some of the business practices of Microsoft, but they're no worse than IBM was back when MS was just starting out.

They may be a company with monopolistic leanings, but then again, what large corporation isn't?

two words (well actually a sentence): Sega Saturn and the president; SS was priced at $400 and no one bought it, huge profit hole (cause it sucked ass :P). Then a DAY or two before the offical launch of the DC the former president resigned due to quarreling with certain reps.

Yes, Xbox has Media Center which should slaughter the Sony franchise...in america and europe. I'm not too sure about it [still] being a big hit (Xbox) in Japan.

Also I still don't see the point in getting one; computers pwn the Xbox left and right, as well as very other direction. I mean c'mon: Xbox: yeah right you can upgrade it, and who cares about the games on it? 3/4 of them are either already on the PC,or will become an even better port.

A great majority of games published for consoles never have a PC port. Those who do, are usually made for PC, and ported over to console. (Half-life, Half-life 2 for short mention.)

Yes, a computer, being easily upgradeable, and having new, cool technologies coming out each day for the platform would make a console easily obsolete.

Even though I have a Media Center PC, and adequate video output to/input from television, I think it's just better for consoles to be connected to TV, as an extension of that. I can barely read font in Windows on an S-video output, and it's kinda clumsy to use a mouse and keyboard sitting on my couch, and talk on AIM/Y!M/etc. and then turn around and play counter-strike. A gimmick yes, but the usual, no.

My xbox sees most of her action out at LAN parties, where we usually play halo/2, eat pizza and scream profanities at each other all night. Yes, we do LAN more often with PC's, but it's oddly easier to transport my 20" TV and xbox to friends houses than it is my computer, with the box, 17" monitor and all the peripherals I need. (Mouse, Keyboard, headset, table, etc.)

We're at a point in technology where, home computers abilities far surpass consoles, but consoles still have a niche, in that they are dedicated (usually) to gaming and don't have to act as a general vehicle for entertainment. That's how they can get away with lower specs than a normal PC, it's a gimp, and therefore can devote more processing power to the games.

I don't see any changes, and I forsee that consoles will reach into at least an 8th generation. It's just who makes it there is cloudy.

Also, everyone should check out the second page of that article, entitled "10 reasons why the Xbox 360 will succeed where the Dreamcast failed."

If xbox didnt have xbox live and media center capabilities (aka. no TV terminal and no online play/patch & game mod downloads/friends list & friends status/player cards etc etc etc... No streaming of movies/music right from the pc, MUCH MUCH more), ps3 would be better BY FAR!!!!

But just the media center capabilities is like 50% of the system... Its like everything you would need for entertainment except for a tv (pretty sure you can use it as a web browser too, and many hacks will come out for it)

PS3 is purely gaming and dvd... period... So it doesnt reach xbox's heights when speaking of overal entertainment.

For example, you have BF2 online for PS3 AND xbox 360.. lets compare...

On ps3: Probly a poor in-game friends list, not much content, great gfx.. thats about it..
On 360: advanced friends list with lots of content, very good gfx(not great), portal to download new maps, vehicles, patches and mods, you can also pm or sms (yes!! sms right from the xbox for free!!) your friends to jump in for a tournament or something, and so much more...

Yes, maybe ps3 has better gfx, but xbox just has so much more... And its going to be much cheaper than the ps3:

PS3 games will be about $80 USD because they are in Blu-Ray format (50GB very fast discs), and the console will also be extremely expensive at first ($600+ USD)
