    Sony's future and the PS3

THe other day I found out thatbecause of all the money it takes to build a PS3 sony will be losing hundreds on each one, because of this apparantly many of it's shareholders have pulled out.

This could be the end of Playstation alll together.

what do you think will happen??

post replys please, it makes me happy :D

Sony is losing money to keep their dominance. Without looking more into this, I can tell you right now, that their plan is to sell it cheaper than it should be sold to get people away from X-Box/etc... They'll lose money the first year but will reap the benefits the next few years of the game system. If they continue to pump out the best games as they did for PS1 and PS2, they will be fine.

They are confident in their fanbase.

wow what a smart lady :D

I have a very childish demeaner today I wonder whats wrong??

    anywho...

even if they can get enough people away from the 360 the shareholders may still want to pull out incase anything goes wrong which is just as likely to happen.

Anything could happen, sure, but I'm pretty sure that Sony has nothing to worry about right now. They still have the best support, and pump out games the fastest. That = teh winner. For instance, if Nintendo could pump out games half as fast as Sony, they'd be in much better shape, because their games typically are really good, just they take FOREVER to come out, and thus are few and far between.

Microsoft has the online market down, thats for sure. Thats really the only area Sony needs to get their butts in gear. Nintendo doesn't even believe in online gaming, apparently, so once again, they'll be fighting for 2nd place..

    Anything could happen :)

I just don't forsee Sony losing this time around, but who knows?

If they keep up the way they did for PS/PS2, they should be fine.

I really hope that Microsoft and Nintendo give them hell, though. Competition is a very, very good thing.

sony's products are actually not as good as they use to be as they no make lower quality products for the same higher price they use to sell their good products for, there fore maximising thier profits that can be ploughed back into business to cover costs on the console to keep their monopoly( you only need 25% of the market to have a monopoly)

Sony recently announced an online service much like Microsofts...

Although It probably wont have all the bells and whistles Microsoft does, such as stats in images on the internet (a gamers profile) like you might see in striders sig, nor would it have downloadable demos, trailers, arcade games, main menu themes, etc...

Anything could happen, but im 60% sure that you cant get much better than Xbox Live.

Whatever system has the RPG's like Wild Arms, Xenosaga, Kingdom Hearts, Dragon Quests, Final Fantasys, Star Oceans; the strategy games like Phantom Brave and Disgea; and the blockbusters like GTA, Metal Gear, Tomb Raider, GT, etc., will be the one I go for... RPG's are a must!

X-Box had what, Fable? And some other no name RPGs... Nintendo has Zelda, but thats not even the type of RPG I'm talking about... So PS/PS2 won it for me, and it looks like PS3 will do the same atm.

    That they do.

SNES still has probably my favorite RPG's ever (Chrono Trigger, Earthbound, Final Fantasy VI, Lufia, Super Mario RPG, Secret of the Stars), but the PS/PS2 ones were really good, too.. I still like the PS ones better than PS2 for some reason...

yeez i like chrono trigger too, FF 6 (here in america FF3), Lufia, Secret of Evermore, Secret of Mana (2), ectect.... in PS my favorites are FF7-FF8-FF9, Valkerye Profile (one of the best :) ) Star Ocean, ectect... (even Chrono Cross was cool for me but not to many think this)

from Xbox i only liked Fable (and later i prefer it in PC), and i think its the only one...
from PS2 i liked FFX and FFX2 (kool), kingdom hearts, and metal gear 2 Substance.
from nintendo i only liked Zelda, but not too much. (i dunno why but for me nintendo was cool with NES and SNES, after that..... >.<

i bought a few days the 360, and i really stick (by the moment) with PC (with Fable, WoW. Mapple and Mu) and my old Snes and PS. :D

hope PS3 bring us a very good RPG's series.........

You seem to know good games :) I liked all of the ones you listed tbh.

I also agree, Nintendo was good before N64. It's like they just stopped caring about RPGs :( After all the good ones SNES had, N64 had like a couple total that were worth a buy.. One I can name off the top of my head was Paper Mario...

Nintendo still has Mario/Zelda, but w/o the FF's and such, just not my thing..

Btw, I liked Chrono Cross, but it was a subpar sequel to CT tbh.. Sure, it had its moments, but it was like a big tease :P Seeing Ozzie, Flea and Slash again was cool, though.

Well, I guess a bit off topic, but my main point still exists :) I think Nintendo used to be really good but strayed away from RPGs/Main Event games, thus they have lost out. Yes, they have Mario/Zelda and the like, but it takes them forever to release them, and in between they have nothing to offer.

Sony has remained the big cheese, and as long as Nintendo keeps to itself game wise, they will be fighting Microsoft for 2nd place again..

You owe it to yourself to play FFVII. Or FFVI.. or FFIX... or any of them, tbh.. Some really good games, and thats not just the fangirl talking. I will say this, though, if you look for graphics over everything else, you may be disappointed. I have found those that are used to the new generation of games seem to really think games like FFVII, Earthbound, etc. are stale/old/dumb..

I'm waiting for PS3. Nintendo Revolution... i seriously want to see this in action... the controller that is... xbox360.. i have yet to play it but i expect it to be great...

PS3 .. i 've seen a list of the upcoming games.. and might i say i am IMPATIENTLY WAITING...
dear lord i pray that it won't take as long as kingdom hearts 2/ffxii to come out for ps3 and games.. also most likely i'll wait a while until a bundle pack at a reasonable price is released...

edit - i meant above that i'm hoping that the ps3 release date will not be pushed back like kh2

Yes your right there, i think that FFVII was one of the best RPG's if not the best one. But all the new people that are playing RPG's think that the graphics suck and is not worth playing. Which is not true.

Going back to the topic, Sony actually is pretty smart in adopting this marketing strategy. Being a project manager for a company myself, I can imagine people's apprehension on risking losing money to initialize a project. But Sony has enough experience to take this risk, a calculated one at that.

By lowering the cost of their console to what it actually costs, Sony is first making sure that their existing consumer base (a large one based on the current video game market) is intact and would be able to afford the unit. After making sure that their fanbase is secure, then they'll go after the others. Initially, they might lose a lot of money but in the long run, they'll be able to recover their losses and eventually profit from this gutsy move.

Still, I hope Microsoft and Nintendo get their act together more to provide better competition because it's only in this way that we consumers will benefit greatly.

    @ Becky

maybe the reason you liked the PS RPGs more than the PS2 ones (like most people) is that games released for the PS was more focused on gameplay, unlike when the PS2 came out, people were so awed by the new technology that they focused more on this (better graphics, smoother transitions between scenes) than on gameplay.

wow this thread got good ^_^

becky is probably right and with mr business incredible man backing her up, Sony probably have some sort of plan for the long run and if the PS3 is succesfull their shareholders will come back almost immediately to get a peicew of the cash cow.

mario RPG was so funny, confused me alot tho bee3n a while since I played it.

My general synopsis of the consoles [I intend to get every one of them! ;) ]

    PS3 = RPGs [I can't resist Japeness RPGs :D]

360 = Action [Enjoying GRAW and Oblivion atm on it :)]

Nintendo's Rev = Random Fun [Er... randomness! ]

A friend of mine told me that Microsoft looses about $150 on each XBOX 360 sold... don't know if that is true or not.

Keep in mind, even if they loose on the consoles, people still have to buy the games =\

If I were to spend, say, $350 on a console, I would still buy at LEAST 4 to 6 games with it, on the day of purchase, at say, $50 a piece (about)...

Err, this is why I like PC gaming, you don't need new consoles every two years or so, there many games for the PC, you can play older PC games on your new PC (often not the case on consoles)... and there are many ways to "obtain" games easily, many can be modified, eerr, you don't often need a whole new pc like you need a whole new console, just replace the motherboard, graphics card, maybe add another harddrive if yours fills up (Most common upgrade here :-$ one of my computers is running low on harddrive space, and I am already using up about 690GB out of my total of 700GB) Yeah, upgrades can be expensive, but, most of us use our computers for more than just gaming...
