How do you find the version? and what do you change the serial to?

As the title says - when editing the main, how do i find out what version I change the main to and also do i need to change the serial? if so what would I change it to?

i'm using 1.04d and files are TT 11.70.01

hexeditor, controll + F -> and type the versio number -> and if you find the version number, you will be find the serial near the versio.
