A server on a laptop should work just fine in my opinion.
-> as long as you have the required hardware and a nice cooling pad.

your laptop its not good for hosting it will be crash and crash everytime better u buy 1 dekstop pc with good OS cofigration :)
You need minimum 1GB Ram on laptop, 2GB would be good.
You need at least 2.1GHz Dual CPU or single 3.40GHz CPU.
You need a ventilation/cooling pad to put under laptop to stop it from overheating.
You need to optimize your laptop to make server run as fast as possible, so lots of free space on hard disk and remove all files which you don't need for server (stuff like pictures, music, videos, and installed programs and games).
You need to have a Windows Operating System with which your files are compatible with (Windows 2000, NT, XP, Server 2003, etc. I do NOT recommend Vista as it is shit. Windows 7 might be ok).
You need at least an internet connection which is stable (no random disconnects and need stable bandwidth) with at least half a megabyte of upload speed (per second) and maybe 4MB download speed (per second).
But what I recommend is home server hosting, not a laptop. Get yourself a nice, big, cheap desktop computer and run the server on that. Running a MU Server on a laptop is laughable, no one is going to want to play your server knowing that its running on a laptop, take my word for it.
Ofcourse you can run a server in a laptop as long as your laptop specs are the required specs for hosting. Me myself already tried one in my laptop and nothing happened. just have good ventilation or good cool pad and a Very good internet :D
