Remote connection to SQL server

I can get my brain wrapped around this one at all. I have a webhost and i need to access my SQL server (home computer) to run the website. I added the servers IP to the config file and setup everything right but i will get a connection failed to the database when i load up the site. Im using muweb.9 The website was running fine when it was on my home computer with the SQL server. but does anyone know how you get SQL to accept other connections besides local? so i can host the site from a different location without getting an error?
