not a good idea to build a server on win7, u can try virtualbox with win2003 + sql2000(or 2005 2008 maybe higher)
Win 7 is good OS to build a server on thats how i started my first server it depends on how many players hes trying to get if he makes it public he be able to hold 20 or 30. But that would be max.
Virtual box is really a stupid idea, i mean c'mon u wanna build a server fully live and learn doing stuff on it, but why do it on virtual crap? no offense but just because u want to test a server? its sad.. cus following the wrong directions will make u keep having issues etc.
and Yes windows 7 is the best OS to build a muonline server, i remember i had VISTA and it was good, didn't knew that i had to even run as admin, that's all u need and that's all that differs.
PLus if its 64bit u just need to ODBC manually thats all.
win 2003 and win 2008 is mostly preferred when you buy a VPS/Dedi Server host so the company might give it/include it free for setup.
The key is to test first and then figure out.
