    City of Heroes Test Server

    Greetings

So this morning i got to work and thought how much i missed City of Heroes ...
Been playing other games but the flying is what made CoH so much fun ... I
Decided to begin my search again for a private server as NCsoft's servers lag
is sometimes unbearable and this is what i found ...
Gonna give it a test tonight when i escape from this pit i call a job ...

Test Server "The Training Room" Up | City of Heroes
Test Server "The Training Room" UpWe have a new server called The Training Room. It's the City of Heroes test server. Welcome!

    What is a test server?

It’s your chance to preview upcoming changes and updates and provide feedback to the developers on our new test server.

The test server is set up specifically for the testing of updates before they are incorporated into the game itself. Players can login, preview/test the planned new features, fixes, changes, tweaks and offer up bug reports or suggestions.

How does a test server differ from a "live" server?

Due to the nature and purpose of a test server, the operative word to keep in mind is "temporary."

    • Content and characters could be wiped at anytime as game specific updates and changes are published, tested and removed.
    • Players can expect lower levels of support, since the bulk of this service is centered around our live servers.
    • Normal bug reporting and petitions will be handled a bit differently, as all issues need to be given more time for in-depth study, review and reproduction.

Here’s how to install the test server client:

Make a copy of the NCsoft Launcher shortcut by right-clicking it and choosing Create shortcut.
Right-click on the new shortcut and choose Properties.
In the "Target:" field, click the cursor at the very end of the line after the quotation mark and add /LaunchGame=CohTest. Be sure to add a space before the "/". The full line should look like the following depending on the location of the NCsoft Launcher. C:\Program Files (x86)\NCsoft\Launcher\NCLauncher.exe" /LaunchGame=CohTest
Click OK to accept the change, and double-click the altered shortcut. Click Install when prompted to install City of Heroes Test. The City of Heroes test client will begin installing.

    1. Locate the "CohUpdater.exe" file. If you installed the game from the retail cd, this will be in the game directory, which is "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes" by default.

    2. Create a shortcut to this file.

    3. Open the Properties for the newly created shortcut. In the "Target" window, add the following flag to the end of the line: [space]-test

    5. Run this shortcut.

The first time you run the shortcut, you will be asked if you want to install the test client to the default directory. Choose "Yes" if you want to install it there, or choose "No" if you want to choose a different directory. It is recommended that you install the test client in a different location than your normal game client.

Once the test client is installed, you can launch the test client by using this same shortcut.

    Additional Information:

    • The test client does not include an uninstall program. To remove it, you will have to delete it manually.
    • If you uninstall the normal game client, it will remove the "CohUpdater.exe" file. If you plan to remove the normal game client but continue to use the test client, be sure to make a copy of this file first.

We have a new CoH board forum entitled “The Training Room” where you can post your comments, bugs, suggestions and other feedback. So please visit!

Training Room Dev EventWant a chance to run some TFs with members of the development team? How about a costume code giveaway of the brand new, SDCC-exclusive Mk-VI "Victoria" to sweeten the deal? We'll be running two special developer events on the Training Room Wednesday, July 27, from 11am PDT (2 pm EDT / 7 pm BST / 8 pm CEST) to 1 pm PDT (4 pm EDT / 9 pm BST / 10 pm CEST), and again at 5 pm PDT (8 pm EDT / 1 am BST / 2 am CEST) to 7 pm PDT (9 pm EDT / 3 am BST / 4 am CEST). Developers and OCR will be on to run missions, chat with players, and randomly give out EU and NA Mk-VI "Victoria" costume codes to a few lucky players! If you weren't able to make it out to San Diego Comic Con, you'll have a chance to get this exclusive costume code. It'll be a blast, so come join us! To access the training room server: Using the NCsoft Launcher:
Using the City of Heroes Updater:
Locate the file 'CohUpdater.exe'. If the game was installed to the default folder then look for: 'C:\Program Files\City of Heroes'. Do not create a shortcut for the desktop shortcut. To do this, you will have to locate the City of Heroes folder.
After you locate the City of Heroes folder, you will need to create a new shortcut to the cohupdater.exe file in the City of Heroes folder. To create a shortcut, right click on the file you wish to create a shortcut for. You can then select an option Create Shortcut which will then create the shortcut.
Right click on the new shortcut and open the Properties option.
In the Target window, add the following flag to the end of the line: [space]-test Do NOT add the word [space] to the Target. The example shown is intended to visually represent a single keystroke of the space bar, and should not be interpreted literally. An example of the correct use of the Flag is listed below.
The finished selection should look like this after you add the flag:
    "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe" -test
Below are possible incorrect additions of the flag to add the test client. The selection should NOT look like this: "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"-test "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater-test.exe" "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe-test" "C:\Program Files\City of Heroes\CohUpdater.exe"[SPACE]-test
    Run the shortcut.
The first time you run the shortcut, you will be asked whether you want to install the test client to the default directory. Choose Yes if you want to install it there, or choose No if you want to choose a different directory. We strongly recommended that you install the test client to a different location than your normal game client.
HOW TO ACCESS THE TRAINING ROOM TEST SERVER WITH A MACINTOSH In order to access the test server with a Macintosh computer, you will need to download and install a second copy of the game. This second copy will patch up the test files to your Macintosh. The steps for this process are outlined below.
Download the Macintosh Test Client Installer from http://download.cityofheroes.com/Tes..._Server_US.dmg to your Desktop
Double-click on the MAC_CoH_Test_Server_US.dmg file to mount "City of Heroes" onto your Desktop.
Double-click the "City of Heroes" mounted drive so that a window with the "City Of Heroes" icon and "Applications" Folder icon appears.
Drag the "City of Heroes" icon onto the "Applications" Folder icon.
Open your Applications Folder and click on the City of Heroes icon to complete your installation.
HOW TO COPY CHARACTERS TO THE TRAINING ROOM TEST SERVER After the client installs, you will need to copy a character over to the test server. To do this, go to this URL: http://boards.cityofheroes.com/charactercopy.php Use your City of Heroes login name and password to login. After you login, you will be able to select the server and character you wish to copy to the test server. It will take several moments, but the character will copy. At this point you will be able to play the test server.

Re: City of Heroes Test Server

ty ... a shame they will only allow us to get the test client and not the actual server ...
started digging more into it and the training room files consists of only a test client ...
you connect to their test server ...

will i will continue the hunt for a COH server we can use
