hey wire... which one should i make you? 1st or second...
2nd Oo =D...............
Don't play dumb you know what we were getting at. I gave you constructive criticism, you ignored, and you made my eye twitch. That's all very constructive. Just keep on playing dumb and see where it gets you.
It's merely a negative comment regarding your reaction my previous statement.
Yes i'm still doing it and i'm not playing dumb, I just don't understand the way you claimed your eye twitch.Again, all this revolves around my opinion that content driven sites do better than graphic driven sites. If you were assigned to do the splash page, then by all means complete your assignment, and I like the 2nd one.
I noted the criticism already, but you yourself didn't read my comment and you said i ignored your comment. If you do use the splash page, then adding some descriptive, relevant content under the graphic would make all the difference.
"the forum is still not using v3 as i just wanted to preview to you guys what v3 would look like."
I said it was just a preview, i have'nt even added the navigation bar.
my apologies, I meant to say,
"v3 made my eye twitch"
More specific:
It made my eye twitch because you made 0 attempt at SEO.
No content, no meta data, a useless title, and all images.
Also, when concerning images, search engines figure out what they mean through the "alt" attribute. The least you can do is fill those in.. All of your alt attributes are blank. Tell google what your images are, and they will get a feel for what your images mean {& relate them in context to your site}. Same thing with a full web-page. Tell the spiders, and in time, they will brag about it to the people who want to know. I know because a little spider told me.
Now I'm going to tell you this frank:
People thinking of SEO typically don't lean towards making a splash page. Likewise, people that make splash pages most-likely haven't ever heard the term "SEO", and therefore wouldn't think much about it. I can try to set you off on the right path, but it might not be of any use. I'm sure you've researched it by now, but if not: Google SEO.
If for whatever reason your not ready, or lean against using SEO. By all means, make your Splash Page; All must learn through trial & error. It's not about complex HTML, large images, & things you like, it's about getting the attention of people whom want to know what you provide.
We're in the age of information, and it's about time people start realizing it.
Oh, and when I said this:
It's actually a well-known fact that content driven sites do better in relation to search engine rankings. If you believe getting high ranks for related terms on search engines reflects majorly on a sites traffic, and that traffic makes a site do well, than SEO is really the way to goall this revolves around my opinion that content driven sites do better than graphic driven sites.
Good luck my friend.![]()
alright thank you, i indeed haven't heard of the term "SEO". I will find out more about it soon =D
Anyway, i need some help about adding "polls" to my website, not the splash page.
www.ceratoforte.webs.com/website.htm
I am considering if i shuold change the box where it says "Links" to "Polls"
I googled around for a free poll script but everything of it requires SQL which i do not intend to download.
Is there any poll script which does not requires SQL and is easy? which means i could just insert it into my html file and tada there it is ?
Poll Resource:
http://www.pollhost.com/
I must admit, your site's a little graphically appealing {though allot of SEO work ahead of you}. One question though, why are most of the images hosted on photobucket? j/w
lol, where else am i support to host the image =D
I need some HTML pro to help me with the poll,
www.ceratoforte.webs.com/website.htm
take a look at the bottom box named " Links "
I got a poll script HTML from http://www.pollhost.com/.
After getting the HTML script, i have trouble inserting the html into the website where it can fit nicely into the box. I tried for a hour or so and still having difficulty. anyone with teamviewer mind helping ? =D
You did your website using a table, you will have more flexibility using div's, if you want a good tutorial about xHTML : http://www.newbiesparadise.com/tutor...r-website.html is a pretty good one.
yes i know, but a php vote system requires mysql and all those, i do not intend to do that.
what's more i'm already having trouble inserting that poll into my website nicely
That also involves having PHP installed on the server, which at one comment made me go the other direction.
Javascript is fully capable of displaying a third-party poll script, so why not utilize that..? At least until there's a host with PHP.
@PaulBub~
Yes, DIVs can certainly be more flexible than tables in allot of ways, but for the most part, tables are more "flexible." The real advantage of divs is that they make everything so much easier for most developers. In my opinion, Daevius said this before: Divs are for making websites, and tables are for tabular data.
The main advantage to tables is the auto-fit structure they have. Tables are reliable. They don't break, they just change size under pressure. In other words, they fail extraordinarily well!
DIVs were (and still are sometimes) quite frustrating for me. I love and hate how divs can stack and overlap each other. Another thing about Divs is that if you define a size, the DIV will stick to that size. So you can put a bunch of text and it'll either keep going outside of the div, or it will display hidden. There are ways to trick the system by not defining a size and a bunch of other crap..
Eventually, you have to learn how to use both tables & DIVs to create a fully functional, dynamic web-site.
We don't do things because they're easy, we do them because they're the right way to do things. The right way to make a web-site, (IMO), is to use DIVs. Not because it's hard, but because it's allot less code, more flexible with the correct knowledge, and sort of a standard for most web-designers. Before you know it, DIVs will be easier than tables.
If you want to work on a site with a team of developers, DIVs are usually the only way to go when a site template's concerned.
Edit: I was going to look at your site, and it's gone :/
Also, I just noticed that freewebs bought the domain "webs" or came across it somehow. What a wise business decision! I'm proud of the first host I ever visited! (All of my techy school buddies back in the day used to poke fun at me for using freewebs.. lol.. And they used 0catch, which is worse IMO.. ;)

That's true, but the best thing about divs is that they are so much easier to implement in CSS than Tables :)
