    upload2.us layout

I didn't know where was the best place to put this, so I put it in this section.

Anyway, you may have heard about my file uploading website, upload2us - Get Google Chrome. Well - I've been doing a lot of updates on it lately and decided to create a new layout for it.

I wanted to get your opinions on this design I have done:

The box that appears underneath that silver cog will only appear once you click the cog, and disappear when you click it again.

The box that appears under the "Help" link will appear when a drop-down menu is required for a navigation menu.

All positive/negative criticism is appreciated. Bare in mind, this is the second proper template I have designed for something I'm doing.

    Thanks,
    - m0nsta.

    Re: upload2.us layout

I like this new layout quite a bit. It seems well thought through.
My only criticism would be that maybe a little bit more color throughout the website wouldn't hurt.

Also, why is it recommending Chrome over any other browser? Maybe if the user has Internet Explorer and you aren't good at IE-6+ compatibility yet, but otherwise I don't see a reason to suggest Chrome over everything else. The only difference between Chrome and FF in terms of the ability to support 'new' websites is the ~20 point difference between the two on the HTML5 test. (It's not a great idea to use too much HTML5 yet anyway, as more internet users than not do not have updated browsers [or just use IE] and thus their browsers have crap HTML5 support.)

Thanks for the feedback. I'll work on the colours when I re-open the PSD.

Also, I made it suggest downloading Chrome because when I coded the old layout, I did it in Chrome so it worked exactly how I wanted it, but when people were opening it in Firefox or Internet Explorer, objects were in different positions. I will make sure the site is compatible with most of the popular web browsers around today.

That's a little odd with it working fine in Chrome but not in Firefox. You must have been using some really new HTML5 stuff.
What I find with web designing is that if it works fine in IE6 and fine in FF3.6 then it will work for pretty much anyone.

There are sites that will take a URL and load it on their servers in several different browsers, including older versions of IE. It will then display a screenshot of how your website looks on each of these browsers. Google around - I think it could help you out quite a bit :). Best of luck.

@Timebomb, yeah I remember those and forget which site it was I used to use to preview all the browsers..

@Monsta, you're getting good bud, the second looks great but could use a bit more color, the first one looks good as well, I think if you took the color scheme from the first and used it on the new one, you'd be doing a good thing.

Consider having a color scheme picker, that way the user can choose which color they like best (you can include the current gray one, too) ;)

And I like the idea of the colour picker...
