If your cpu and mobo support vt-x/amd-v is fine to run win server as a main host if not is better linux to be the host os. And best ofc is to use 2 machines :)
bro, your opinion is not an answer of my question. I want to know if it's good if i will use linux OS as a main system of the server and use virtualbox to run a virtual machines such as windows for database and another centos for cabalserver. I want to know also if the linux firewall is safe for possible intuders, i mean the RDC safety.
Anyone have tried this set-up?
Main OS = Linux 6.4 for the root server
> Virtual 1= Windows server (mssql)
> Virtual 2= Linux 5.8redhat (cabal)

Why you just don't use the cabal OS (CentOS) as a main host? more virtual machines more cpu power... about firewall yes linux firewall, iptables have away more secure and control over the stupid windows firewall.
Linux=CentOS
What i mean bro is, for common set-up of cabal pserver, we use windows server 2008 operating system in our physical machine (root server) then we use virtualbox for virtual machines like CentOS for cabal server files and another windows virtual machine for Database (optional if we want to separate our database to the main operating system, another virtual for webserver - optional.
Now, I want to use CentOS 6.4(Linux) as my main operating system in my physical machine, my concern is, Is it advisable or possible to use virtualbox under CentOS to make another virtual machines for MSSQL that uses Windows OS and another Centos (redhat 5.8 64bit) virtual machine for cabal server?
The idea of using 2 separate machines (1 for database and 1 for cabal) is very good idea to maximize the performance on our server.
But I raise this idea in order to eliminate the expenses of paying the windows license per month and to use 1 physical machine only with good hardware specs like i7 haswell procie.
I hope you understand now what i mean.

Ye i understand now what u want to do and is good idia to pass the win license tax + get some extra performance. The guest OS have lower performance and performance for MSSQL is not so important. Atm i have free machine i hope after 2-3 days i can have free time to test your idia :)
Yahhh, i got this idea when i'm thinking how to eliminate the 30USD per month for win server 2012 since CentOS is free.
Please post here bro the outcome of your test. i will try also if i can secure an extra PC.
If this will work perfectly, then we can save our money paying the monthly bill for windows license that we can even use a pirated one hehehe.
I advise against running Windows on Virtualbox/VMware on a centos host.
Cabal runs perfectly fine on CentOS 6.4 so I don't see any reason why you would want to additionally virtualize the 5.8 one unless you run some software that is incompatible with the 6.4 one.
Main OS = Linux 6.4 for the root server and cabal
> Virtual 1= Windows server (mssql)
I have no experience at all in virtualizing stuff in CentOS so that is my only reason I would advise against it.
What you need and demand is more important than the performance.
I mentioned centos 5.8 because i haven't tried yet using 6.4 for cabal.
Other reason also why I need to virtualize the cabal server is for maintenance purpose. If i want to reboot the cabal server, the virtual machines (mssql and webserver) will not be affected.
Now, i'm soliciting ideas especially to those who have tried this set-up of how the virtual (guest) windows works under Centos host if no issues on it.
