I am trying to find out why cant i acces the search character function from the cabal tools.
I even reseted the linked server(with the data provider string set with locahost and ip)neither works.

check user mapping on account database. make sure it have a permission to access.
user has permissions.
no one has this problem?

Andrei if i were you i would just try to reinstall the SQL :) i think you installed something wrong ;) i had this prob .. all i did is reinstall :)

He's not telling you to search the forum... He's telling you to search the web with Google. This problem is completely unrelated to CABAL, and is just an issue with Java and your SQL setup.
I have tried that function on multiple different servers and it never worked. Just leave it be, it might aswell be a coding problem in the tool itself and how much work is it to load up the two tables in SQL to find that info? You can easily code that into a little php page, which has been done in the website you're using.
