    Friends can't connect

i know this has been asked a million times because i have tried a million of the answers on this forum but here is my prob.

noone can connect to my cabal server.when i frist set it up i was able to connect localy but i followed the tuts posted to open it up for a few friends to come on and play but they get failed to connect after entering name and pass and waiting for blue bar to load.

i am running ^ Fix ^'s links for centos 4.7 on vmware with server preinstalled since that is the newest server version i can use on my install of Vmware 6.5.1

i have centos set up perfectly but the cabal server does not see anyone trying to connect at all.
i had my friend use WinSCP and he could connect to centos without a problem but when he tries to connect using the cabal client the blue bar fills up and it says failed.

i have added server logs but from what i can tell it looks like noone is trying to connect.

centos ip is set to 192.168.1.58
router port forwarding 30k-40k to ip 192.168.1.58

thanks to anyone that can help.

    Re: Friends can't connect

You are right, not connection attempts in the login log.

First check that you have that 67.241.x address in your internal.txt and also specified as the gameserver IP when running cabal_config. For a public server the 192.x address won't work. Also remember that you must use the start-cabal batchfile to load the client or it will connect to the wrong IP.

Next use an online port checker to make sure port 38101 is open. It won't show as open unless the server is running even if port forwarding is correct. If it shows as closed port forwarding is the problem.

I can see some errors that might mean the server cannot connect to sql. To test copy these files to /root/ on centos, chmod both files to 0777 before running /root/test_sql.sh. It will ask you for your db username and password before trying to connect to the DB using Cabal's DSN. It should return 1 row, letters and numbers (it tests md5 password encrypting).

    Re: Friends can't connect

got it for some reason port forawding will not work on my router.i set DMZ on th ip of centos and we were all able to connect with no prob.

---------- Post added at 07:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:42 PM ----------

found out my mistake on the port forwarding issue is i was using port fowarding tab and not port range forwarding.so basically all i was doing was forwarding port 30k onto port 40k on the centos ip.

i went in and removed the DMZ and set Port Range Forwarding with 30k-40k and server works fine.

make sure if you are opening a range of ports to user port range forwarding. port forwarding is for 1 port only per line.
