    ODBC provider string not available

I followed the guides precisely, but when I want to make my linked server and I choose MS OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers, I can't write in the provider string box. What do you guys think I can do?

Should i just remove the need for a linked server? Or is there another simple fix for this?

I already searched the forum for this over and over again and:

    1. I tried sql native client (after reading elsewhere that it might work) - didn't work

    2. Everything else is (I believe) set up, but the linked server doesn't work, so help would be much appreciated.

So thanks for the future help

Don't use a linked server. Check chumpywumpy's posts for a script that removes the need for a linked server.

Please use the "Like" feature instead of just posting "thanks". Also, take the time to read the forum rules. Thank you.
