problem with centos
hello guys.
im having a strange prob with the file system.
i have followed darkxl guide with his excelant vidio, i have also followd chumpys guide.
the problem is that when i try to copy files to the centros system i get a error 3 permission denied.
ok i went to the main site and cant find anything to cure it. my file wall is disabled. i have given myself full permissions to file acsess writing and deleting , i have given myself all permissions to all files and progs.
on trying to acsess the file system on centros it tells me i cant read it as i am not the owner, i cant change this as it says the owner is 'root'. i also cant read the root folder as this is reporting im not the owner.
there is a utility to change ownership and file acsess, but it is not allowed on these 3 items. 1. file system, 2. root, 3 lost and found.
these 3 can not be altered and wont allow ownership to change.???
on chumpys guide and darkxl guides both show that i need to copy files to the root directory. no matter which method i try to use to copy files i get the message error 3 permission denied.
i have tried to delete and reinstall vmware and centros several times now but i get the same problem when trying to copy files to centros.
i have been using secure crt to move the file.
any suggestions pls guys

Re: problem with centos
hi
thanks for replie kilawin, no im using centos directly downloaded from the centros site it is ver 4.1 .
ive been on the centros forum and have been told that i need to make permissions to write files to server, i have done all that and i have given my user id and user group all permissions possible.
i can acsess all other files and folders in the centros system, but trying to read or write to the 'root' or 'lost+found' folders i get a error message " error 3 , permission denied, server permission denied, request error 3 "
the explination given is that 'root' and 'lost+found' folders are owned by 'root' there for i cant change permission or alter ownership of these 2 folders or files, this also does not allow me the rights to copy files to these 2 folders ??.
how does one copy files to these 2 folders if the right to do so cannot be given. ??
@ chummpy or darkxl please guys you have both shown in your guides that certain files have to be moved to the 'root' and run from there can you guys please advise me at all on this

Re: problem with centos
check if you are loged as root. because root got all the premission to all the files. So there shouldn`t be any errors
