Quick question regarding Network Layout

Hello All,

I had a quick question for you guys regarding Network Layout in my situation. I am currently downloading files to set up an EP8 private server (completely for offline/ personal) use only so I can just mess around and stuff.

Now, my question is that I am currently attending school and live in the college dorms and I was wondering what kind of internet set up they use. In order to connect to their internet all I have to do is connect to the wifi access point and use my log in credentials) So I am not sure if I am behind a router, etc etc. Any help on this would be appreciated and in addition would this affect the way I set up my offline experience?

I guess the main thing to note is that I won't be able to set up port forward and what not since I don't have admin access to routers.
