The specs don't really matter it is how you run it and how many players you want to support. If you are hosting the server, DB and playing all on the same machine it's always going to suck no matter how big the machine. 2 real machines (no vmware) to host the server and then it is a case of scale to the number of players you want. A P3 1ghz for mssql and the same for centos each with a gig of ram would easy run a small single channel server but the more cpu and ram the better if you expect a few hundred players. More channels and more players = more ram but for cpu cabal doesn't need anything that fast unless you use vmware.
