Your problem is that you are trying to enter an IP into the vmware settings, dont!

Both the vmware NAT and Bridged interfaces default to the correct settings and the only thing you need to change for a NAT setup is the port forwarding on the NAT interface (vmnet8).

What happens is that vmware will create a small LAN using the interface and when centos starts up it will either assign it an address on that LAN (if set to auto dhcp) or you manually specify on for centos which is in that LAN range. If in doubt leave it on auto to see what gets assigned and then set that address manually in the centos network wizard.

What you are trying to do is add a WAN IP address into it's LAN settings which is invalid and will stop everything working. Remember that vmware knows what it needs to do and will do it automatically. The only bit it can't do for you is the port forwarding.

ooh well that clarifiies a ton chumpy :D

    thanks allot man :D

anyways what about seting up the bridged interface for a router? cause when i set it to custom vmnet2(bridged) its the only way i can connect with putty or winscp...

when i do bridged: connect directly to a physical network. i cant connect with either of them, =/ if u could help me out on this it would be a great big help :D

The bridged setting should only be used if you have a router as it bridges the virtual network centos is on with your main one created by the router. NAT is for when you don't have a router and therefore no LAN to bridge, the NAT setting is for port translation/forwarding which is how to tell vmware that of all incoming connections some are for the server not your windows machine.
