smile Windows 7 as a server?

    Hiya guys! :D

I just installed windows 7 on my new computer,
and i was just wondering what software i need to start the server?
    For example, which CentOs version?
i've already got VMware Workstation, so u do not have to worry about that :P
    Putty?
    Mysql?
    and so on.
I know alot about linux but not so much about making servers, i've downloaded the TDP Cabal server repack v2.8 and i need all the software to host and play.
And i mean everything from client mods to server fixes.
And i know how to google so u do not need post links if u do not want to :)
And the server only need to be on LAN.

thank u very much for reading zssiz

Re: Windows 7 as a server?

Personally my own environment is now Win7 x64 and MSSQL 2005 express (the server cannot use MySQL). Centos 5.x is definitely needed as not all of v2.8's features work on centos 4.

As Win7 can be a bit rubbish about non-siged drivers i'm actually using VirtualBox at the moment (vmware gave me grief about unsigned drivers) but if you can get vmware insrtalled that will do just as well. WinSCP and Putty are both a must for copying files and running commands.

For the client you will need an OGPlanet 2008 client (link in my sig) and a patch made using the "cabal_patchtool" command which will pack the decoded enc files and save a patch in /root/clientfiles which you can apply to the client.

I think that's pretty much it. Remember to check the readme that comes with v2.8 as it explains how to install (this bit is very easy because of my scripts) and also check the "cabal_help" command to see what commands are available on centos as there are several to help people get up to speed quick.

Any questions you have post away.

    THANK U!

No the mssql installer needs to be downloaded separately as they are larger. Some people need the 32-bit version and some need the 64-bit so it is easier if people download those themselves (faster speeds from the MS site too).

I don't use skype or IM anymore but i'm almost always in the Cabal IRC channel which is stickied. I'm only actually there to answer after 19:00 GMT, not 3AM GMT as the people that keep messaging me in the middle of the night think ;)

Of course there is. Read the notes next to the download links.

    http://www.microsoft.com/Sqlserver/2...ress-down.aspx

Those db files are the right ones.
