working on cabal private server

i have a old computer.. i recently just bought 1 gig of ram.. it only had 256mb..

this computer specs:
processor intel(r) celeron(R) CPU 3.60GHz 2.59 Ghz
(ram) 1.25GB
32 bit operating system

internet connection: 3mb

i am running windows 7 using vmware ... that way
if any one thinks it would be better for me to
use centOS and use my home computer with sql.. then
please tell me..

i dont know how many people ill be able to hold
so.. if u guys can tell me ill be happy =)

Actually i`m hosting my test server on ubuntu with 256 rams for 1 channel.

How many players you can have online depends on whether you are playing on the same machine too. If you are then you won't be able to hold many and on those specs i would expect it to lag as a celeron is not a particularly powerful processor and the game client will take up most of your ram.

I don't get the bit about running win7 in vmware. Normally Windows would be the base operating system and centos would be in the virtual machine but it can be done the other way around i guess.

Its also not only a hardware problem you ran into with having much players online. The Interet connection must also be a good one which can prevent you from having lag with manny players online.

1 : shouldn't install cabal on win 7 :) ( vmware ) something will be error
2 : 100 ppl online need only -300mb Ram - but for win 7 u will need 1Gb ram, to run SQL i think u will need 256mb ram :) .
ur prob is ur connection - with 3mb connection u can host with 3-5 ppls online ( some lags ) , if more than it will become very lag :)

Not quite true. I'm running on Win7 x64.

The error you saw is because Win7 doesn't allow unsigned drivers and older VMWare installers don't have a signed driver and it refuses to install (i think the latest versions will install). There are some hacks to install unsigned drivers but they don't work on all builds too well.

Currently i'm using virtualbox which i'm finding easier to use than vmware if you have a router but a non-router connection (NAT types on vmware) might not be so easy, not looked too much yet. It's definitely faster than that nasty MS virtual PC

well.. i have no problems starting the cabal server.. in vmware... runs like a baby... i know i should post another thred but... i need to know where i can get the right patch and the right cabal setup (that works with private servers) all the ones i found are dead so.. please no butt holes saying use scearch btw chumpy im running 32bit on this comp

And add the files from your server into the client.

The files are in youre root ( clientfiles )

i have this computer connected to my router same as all my computerss.. my modem is connectd to my router.. but whats weird my router and my modem bolth have port fowarding

well.. btw... windows 7 first start up takes only 350mb.. useing a software like ect(game booster) that can turn stuff off that makes games faster.. can probly make ur comptuer faster to.. with that on im shure it will get down to 200-320 mb ram.

i make shure every time i install somthing it dont boot up enless it needs to for the server

i play the original cabal... we are all dev's in somthing.. (meaning not just video games...)
we are all good with computers. im making a server so our guild on cabal can play on this one.. that means im probly not going to host this live to get money or donations till next year.. becouse when our hole guild of cabal ppl that play like 15hrs a day.. start to work on new stuff for are private server it rly isnt going to matter what the hell you say becouse we will have so much cool shit when we release it ( we probly will get a new computer and more ram) and probly install win xp with 2gb/4gb of ram with 30mb internet. then when re release it im shure ull try joining witch i probly will allow you to just to show u that you where rong... thank you
