ddos protection is hardware based. Your host may provide paid ddos firewalls - many hosts don't.
Software protection wont help - ddos is all about using up ur free bandwidth.
pm me for info![]()
True the best DDOS protection is from your ISP however if for some reason they are ass hats and won't offer help buy a ASUS or Netgear with DDOS prtection I'm sure there are others your looking at about $180 to $300 for a router that can help you out. all so just a FYI the ASUS RT_N66U has builtin DOS protection and its DD-WRT ready
AAH sorry I misunderstood your situation I'm used to running everything myself in that case the previous recommendations to contact your server hosting company and have them spin security to block potential DDOS attacks would be the way to go.
im offering help, but u didnt response hahaha
some of the hosts provide paid option for ddos firewalls.
You can check out a few companies depending on your budget :
http://www.hyperfilter.com
http://www.blacklotus.net
http://www.prolexic.com
All them will be able to help you with your issue :)
If i've got enough time ill make a tutorial on how to completely protect your server from DDOS, actually 98% guarantee that it is going to protect your server.
the complete ddos protection can only be archived if you actually have a host that provides hardware ddos protection and more then 100mbit link ( 1gbit at least).
If not, no software will protect you.
You can loo kat reverse proxy services ( u still would have to change your ip after you get one) - but those WILL add lag.
Software never will be faster than hardware actually.
First because, software requires synchronization between threads to take full cpu performance, however each synchronization operation takes around 800-900 nanoseconds to complete, and in order to handle a large dos/ddos attack, you must spend around 50-60ns per packet, if you are going to take 12-15x more, you can already forget it, because you will never be able to barely handle more than 10~15% of 10G Throughput via software...
CPUs are great, but for complex work, which requires usage of optimized instructions set such as SSE4, however for basic operations like packet parsing/state checking at a high throughput (10 Million PPS+ per second), they aren't suitable to.
In fact, you will need to use FPGAs or ASICs and there is where dedicated hardware becomes necessary, with properly OS written for it too :)
