Planning to run a server again - how much/what has changed in the scene?

Pretty much been off the rf for over 2 years.

I'm wondering - has anyone continued development on anything, made any progress anywhere or discovered something new?

I know i released a pile of resources - did any good come from those?

Did anyone get any further with msh format after that or managed to get any of the tools working?

Is it more toxic and full of ddos and hacks and CCR shutting everything down?

not so sure about the other release
at least i've tried to change weapon shape xD
    rather than texture/color.

oh, some people also release offset to fix crash from china apex,
there's also auction house fix clue that would make it work for 2232 (sadly i only share the clue, not full tutorial)
but i give broad clue that should be easily understand :)
    good luck

Not worried about 2232, will be using 223 if i go for it - still got my RF Battlefront files.
The pvpwar link - aren't many of those also 1.5 meshes?

Wonder if they researched msh from ground up or actually used some of the research i released as well. If i feel bored enough i might check the custom models out, before i was done i only was able to manipulate meshes - take parts of it from other models, changing the scale etc.

Re: Planning to run a server again - how much/what has changed in the scene?

    Hiya Lifestream.

    Welcome back to the scene.

Tbvh not a lot has happened since you were last here, No one is really doing any Dev work or releasing stuff, Mainly due to leeches downloading stuff then adding their names to files making a few txt changes and trying to release and claiming it as their own or trying to sell the files.

If you do a search on the web for files you will see what I mean, Most of what the old school guys done here with releases has been claimed by other people as their own work.

Cant say I don't blame people for keeping there work to them selves these days as most who come here don't appreciate the work done by the people who actually take the time to fix, create or rebuild files or give tuts to them.

As to the RF server scene out there Most don't last long as they are to fast high lvl pvp crap servers that die a quick death, A more slower but not intense grind fest server usually last a couple of years.

As to Ccr they have still been doing work on the Rising Force franchise and have copy righted the new name of "rising force online 2" this supposedly has a new engine and vr development involved.

Games Campus lost their Franchise, and sold their files to Redfox gaming, This is a bit of a joke as its not a retail server but has a huge grind like retail but with typical pvp server edits and maps.

Word has been going around that Ccr have been shutting down support sites, Face book pages, forums etc this is nothing to do with Ccr but Redfox gaming, Same old shyte that codemasters tried.

A few good people like Likertuban and a small selection of people still contribut, Ron is back on the scene with a new prodject but that's about all.

Im not so well know here in the RF world as my main contributions were to Tantra Online files and Cabal online.

Ive been here since the RF scene 1st started I have more or less every file that's ever been released here, Ive also run several servers successfully for many years. To Name a few RF Turbo, Drakorium, Hell, Extinction, Elven invasion and a server that has been on hold for the last 3 years.

Reason for this is I had a massive stroke 4 years ago and im still recovering, lots of probs with memory recall and thought control.

I am retired from work as a result I have a static business fibre connection my own hosting facilities and several vpns available if you need that kind of stuff, or if you would not mind joining me and can help with the editing side of files at all I would welcome the help gratefully.

    Regards Alan110

Ill just run the files from my last server that has 8 months of development in them (i had too much time i think).

Now im trying to jump through the common problems of setting a server up and trying to recall what caused all that crap (like why my server list is empty).

Does rf pay the investment ? What kind would be better for making money? 6 years off rf online dev, just curious about its financial status,

Well if you consider your own time aa investment - then barely or not at all.
But it certainly does cover the running costs at least - especially if you are smart.

what about the hacks? Rf had a hack for every need, it was very annoying. Based on XtremeTop can i assume Rf community is running low?

Most don't bother using the top sites - they suck, you pay to get "popular".
Hacks are everywhere. The only protection that takes care of many of the hacks is the dev-corp, russian made server (+ client side for some stuff) one - but it's not free. Any protection that tries to "block" hack tools is worthless.
