Re: the history of RF online private server

boar was involved with the original leak, I've spoken with him a few times. Basically the files got leaked through codemasters up until 2.1.6, at which time gamespirate was the first website to obtain the 2.1.6 server files. 216, 221 and 223 files were all spread to the english community through a guy going by the name "server4you" on MSN.

The 216/221 leaks were from me stealing the files from novus sector for them not paying me for my work, then 2.2.3.2 soon after from me as well. People think botgod released the 2.1.6 files, when in reality he saw me annouce the release on my site (rf-dev) and released broken files, while the files I released on rf-dev were the actual fixed ones and were fully working.

In a nutshell, just a network of people stealing files from each other.

Yes, all the server files have been stolen or somehow leaked from the retail servers, however most of the files we've gotten over the years have been early development builds or have been incomplete. What we have on RZ is only half of what the official servers have.

Ha a history lesson on RF.

Ronnn i remember when you jason magenick and i think brent D physho andddd one other person.* i cant remember for the life of it* and something happened that pissed you all off...

anyways the oldschool days. rf ocean then rf extreme * rf ocean had the baal hammons in the settlement maps that gave shitloads of exp at 3x rates. and soon rf extreme went like 50x rates or something and it was a miracle because 55 gear existed then. and who dosent remember GAMERSHACKKK the fucking goldhack with wpe was just amazing. a good group of bored people. including sound*poa* cypher i think and just all sortsa randsom people like me nero and SBK put everything on the AH for absolutely nothing!

    You guys are wrong :)

RF started from closed beta Client / Server

it wasnt stollen at first it was on their patch server FTP (i remember due i got file from there)

at that time it was Pirateserver forum who released first files then ragezones

Sources + file was CCR ftp that was open to public that was the big mistake of RF history for ccr :)

First server was Webly server a guys that i dev RF with but it was public only for Indonesian at that time
then came Botgod who make Server live for international but no many players
1 months after i did order a good server (650 usd/months at that time) and host first RF ocean > first month we've got over 1500 players that was insane :)

wow, so ccr open to public their ftp, it's very so interesting,
if people get server from that, how could that files is only half of what the official servers have like ron said???

Because the one thing CCR does right is learn from their mistakes. We'll likely never see anything even close to the old source code.

    history of servers ...cute =)

now there only few servers that stay alive.

a lot where sued,,,,a lot where closed after they got a lot of money,,a lot where closed by CCR(closing their paypals)..and now there like 10 good servers no more....u can see them at the top games like xtremetop 100 etc.
just one is making an 1.5 emu(is not good atm but has a good future)
the others have all custom maps and customs levels and new skills weapons and armor(better than actual rf online game since CCR is really fucked up in balancing races)

You know people always say that, but I have never once received any sort of notice from CCR demanding shutdown or DMCA notices against the server site.

CCR honestly doesn't give a shit about private servers, especially now that they don't self-manage the game anymore. It'll now be up to onnet (gamescampus) to decide whether or not they want to pursue future private server owners as they are the license owners.

I remember that, this is correct, was beta client (almost alpha due to massive bugs and non working stuff), CCR was always incompetent, RF is a bunch of junk code, full of bizarre bugs and almost 0 optimized code, i remember when Akaruz told me in irc to join ragezone and look into RF section about this beta release of RF, bring me happy memories but make me sad today, the fact akaruz not here anymore, the fact the meaning of "community" was completely destroyed, the brotherhood of game dev, turned into a mercenary business and a lot of scamming and fakers around, not to mention the feeling of traveling to the unknown, eager to make a piece of Korean software available to everyone!

Thank you of the history, i wish i can read more about RF, especially the real ALPHA, that the bellato HQ for example was the tutorial training area, a very different game.
