Q: A3 Server

Hello guys,

I trying to run small A3 Server in local lan, I readed here almost all posts about this and at moment don't understand which client fit to which server, i downloaded some server files (i think ver. 202) and I have fully upgradet to pay in A3India client atm, (to find some other client is problem, almost links are dead from forum).

I am working about 15 years like programmer and I good familar with SQL 2000 or BDE, or some HEX things :) Just i know not a lot about A3 client & server versions, releases & etc.., like i understand exact server version need exact client version & i write to ask this information.

Question is: To use A3India client (at current monent is 1.23 ver, they write in splash screen A3 Part 2 ) what server version i need, i have only A3Server202?

Need information like: A3Server202 clients can by for example up to some version or only some version & etc..

P.S. If i done it i then post full instruction to make correct server, just need some your help guys.

Then i will download client and server (Ver 202) and configure to run and maybye i done some utility for hexing client then.

The A3 India client is not compatible by default with any of the servers. Use the 2.02 server files along with the 2.02 client uploaded here on teh forums recently.

Yes i found this one in that link just after i started this post & like i see links working, already started to download, I have a bit older SQL database but i will try to run it on it (maybye will eat less resources), but if will not work i change to SQL 2000 this is not problem and i think you can use any MSSQL database from SQL 2000 or highter, for example SQL 2005, here is no problem when you restore older database backup in highter version MSSQL i done it many times at work, just Microsoft like in old good traditions keep backward compatibility.

Microsoft give like free database for developement MSDE packages (Microsoft Database Engine), they have some limited functionalities, like connections count (MSDE 2000) or start to work slow if server have more then i think 5 active connections (MSSQL Express 2005), then it not so usefull if people want to create on it big server with a lot of clients, but it very depends how done server software or they keep all the time connections or only connecting when need to do some operations with database, this possible to check with NETSTAT command prompt utility or using some SysInternals software like TCPView on working server.

About database creation, like i understand Databases in Server package is like SQL Backups (Just exist and other ways to keep database backup not only by backup, when people stopping server and copying Data files and when need somewhere install it just attaching it - this is a bit easiest way, you don't need then force restore and have less problems, but is not problem to restore regular backup too).

Another thing is then exist some easiest ways to create D: drive if people don't have it, you just need to use old DOS command "SUBST", how to use it:

For example you have All server files in C:\MyA3Server

then just write bat file with content (and run it for example at system startup):

SUBST D: C:\MyA3Server

and you get content of this directory like D:\

BTW: Server usage of BDE interface for my say then Server software done on some Borland (now they are Inprise) programming language like Delphi or Borland C or Borland C++ builder :)

P.S. Maybye better leave just 1 Normal post about server creation and remove all with no working links, just people then must read a lot of post to find correct one.

Yes, the DB's can be used with a higher version of SQL coz MS offers backwards compatibility. The server was made in Delphi with C implement and the DB's were designed on Borlands Engine as you have discovered.

Ok, & about this all rearranging, i checked forum here, ppl i think find what they need, just i in begin found it with google, maybye google are cached some older info just & just allways googling when i need some info or stuff :)
