Well and then never stop improving the source code and the database. Example: a table has a row in it let's call it Username. That row is a varchar type and has the length 255 no default defined. BAD because now the system produces for a username that is only 6 letters long still 255 placeholders for nothing! let's think how many chars (now it's 255) does it need? Well when you anyway defined in the registration that user can only use like 20 characters for their username so lower the length to 20. Well if you don't get it idc it's just an example. Use a Linux server instead of windows (gives you a massive boost in speed but you would need for example an emu written in java instead of c#. I think there is a way to run c# programs on linux servers but you would have to investiage the web for this and who knows if this is not senseless). Restart your server frequently so you clear any unneded heap mem. Do a download/upload speed test. This you can't influence as it's setup by the hosting company for all vps. If one uses much more you might pick the short one ;) which means you have no power to do anything against a lag then (just changing the hosting company).
