It's no longer about how the games look as they're all plataeuing, it's more about how they play.
Who needs to upgrade it? It's a games console for christ's sake, you don't NEED it to be a home media centre, Microsoft just added that shit to appeal to a wider consumer market, it was never intended to be fantastically high quality (hence the lack of HD-DVD). DVDs are fine as they are, I mean sure, HD looks fantastic and all, but it's horrendously expensive. So before you go bitching about the lack of HD technology, why don't you consider the price options here; Before buying an HD-DVD, you need an HD TV (a couple of thousand £'s gone already), an HD-DVD compatible DVD player (another few hundred £'s) and the DVD itself (bound to cost more than a 'normal' DVD). Hardly ideal is it? Spending thousands more than you need because you're a perfectionist. By the time HD-DVDs and HD-TV is widely available it'll be cheap, so by then the new games consoles will handle it.
Instead of whining about it; 'Oh no! Microsoft didn't waste hundreds of millions of dollars to incorporate a feature that 95% of the market won't be able to utilise for at least 3-5 years! What am I to do? I know! I'll bitch about it because nobody wants to hear it.' Just deal with it, it doesn't matter.
As for the 'lack of 360 consoles', that's bullshit too. There's plenty to go around, it's just a merketing ploy to keep consumers hungry for it. Stores that ordered a stock of around 100 consoles were shipped something like 10 or 15. It sucks, sure, but it's business and Microsoft are doing it to promote the console further, giving people a better reason to make sure they buy one - because one of their friends got it first and they're jealous. Envy drives a human being, people. Realise it.
Why are you moaning about the controllers? Holy shit man! The original Xbox controllers were a fucking disgrace! They were chunky, impractical and heavy. Unless you've actually held a new 360 controller (which I doubt you have) then there's no base for your arguement because you simply don't know what you're talking about. They're far more comfortable and compact than previous Xbox models, so you can deal with that too.
Your options are few;
- Wait an extra 4-6 months for the rediculously over-priced Playstation 3 (make no mistake, I'm not dissing the PS3, I think it's fantastic and I will most definately purchase one - after the price has dropped considerably).
- Wait for the Nintendo Revolution (why even bother doing that?).
- Buy the Xbox 360 and like it.
