IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
When I first started out with retros, I was the one to actually, yes, use XAMPP on my live server.. Which had a good 100+ users on daily. Eventually it got hacked, because I was a victom of a WebDAV exploit! But who am I to say I was stupid, this was 3 years ago when I had no knowledge on even how to setup a Apache HTTP server... But 3 years later (give or take a few months) I am here, learning more and more as I go- finally giving it a go, and I'm talking about Nginx.
For 3 years, I've been using IIS, yes, IIS. I've experimented with Apache, aswell, but stuck to IIS for such a long time. And out of the blue, I decided to try Nginx, since I've heard so much about this HTTP server, I've seen so many websites use it.. So I finally got around to actually setting up a fully working Nginx HTTP server, and yes, with PHP. Which leads me up to writing this..
Why do so many hotels jump on the bandwagon and automatically use IIS or Apache, when you have such a webserver which is capable of runtimes much, much more faster and efficiently. I personally say Nginx is much more secure, safe and if you get to know how to use it, easy to operate. Because all in all, we all want our Hotels, or even websites that little bit faster when it comes to loading times, and such.
How many of you's have actually used/tried, or is currently using Nginx.. And what are your personal thoughts on it, how do you find it, easy to use? Professional? Problems?
I want to know, because so far, I seem to be liking Nginx..
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
Well I never really thought about setting it up before.. I was like you when I first started out. Used xampp, got hacked then i removed webdav then people were ddosing me like crazy switched over to IIS and the attacks slimmed down so I stuck with that. Never attempted to touch ngnix. Would be nice to test some day.
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
People seem to think Nginx is better because It's hardly ever used on retros. Really, the quality of Nginx is no better than IIS. I wouldn't say It's bad but It's sort of on the same line as IIS.
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
i recommend litespeed ^__^ it's what we use.

Well, there is a diffrents.
Nginx is a event-based server, in other words, a asynchronous server. Apache is a process-based server, which means it creates a thread for every connection while nginx doesn't.
personelly i prefer to use nginx as a static file server while apache is doing the dynamic files! :)
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
To set up, NGNIX confuses me. Not sure why, but I tried it and it confused me.
I stuck with IIS because it's got..
Easier to write site configuration (XML > Regex), easy to install new modules and add-ons, it's optimized for Microsoft Windows, whereas Apache is cross-platform and not necessarily faster on Windows.
It's super user-friendly, too. Not that I'm an idiot because I need a UI, but it's preferable when applicable. I'd rather use Windows than have to use console-based Ubuntu. I actually prefer console-based Ubuntu to their own layout actually :/
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
I use Varnish + Nginx and its very very fast
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
With proper setup IIS will be most suitable for retro.
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
Using nginx as front end proxy + apache is a good solution.
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
I like Nginx but I prefer to use LightTPD, is not easy to configure and manage but it's really fast, clean, light and safe.
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
nginx is great on Linux, otherwise just use IIS on Windows if you can't be bothered to setup nginx.
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
I was thinking of switching to nginx, since IIS isn't that great with handling DoS, it throws all kinds of errors which shouldn't actually appear. :')
Re: IIS? XAMPP? Apache? How about Nginx..?
I transfered from IIS to NGINX and I prefer Nginx. I don't know why but pages loading faster and I don't have laggs nor errors.
