earlier today about 60 miles from Japan (I think) ... in the middle of the ocean was an epicentre of not just one earthquake, but three!
two of these measured 8 and 7.2 on the Richter Scale! This caused horrendus damage! damn!
8 is like huge... i believe its a ten fold per notch so its er
10^8 or 10^7 not sure but thats a fucking high number!

they where lucky though coz it was far away, if it would of been closer they would of been fucked!!!
an epicentre of an earthquake is not necessarilly where the centre of it started but if it were closer, less damage would've been caused, as a tsunami warning has been issued and an evacuation process initialised :(Quote:

yeah i was thinking that if the epicenter was 60 miles out surely they gonna get a tsunami or at least a tidal wave, poor buggers ><
i live straight in the middle of the biggest fault line in the united states (literally right on top of it, no joke). although its always excused because we havnt had a massive earthquake for quite some time.
when we did have an earthquake a long time ago though, it was so strong the mississippi river flowed backwards and permanently changed its course.
i also live in one of the hottest places (in the summer at least) in the united states. two years ago, the capital was had a massive heat wave. our days were hotter than days in the middle of the sahara desert.

in iceland last time i was there we had a big one, 6.8 richter
and i didnt wake up :P was 5 in the morning i just slept through it
didnt do alot of damage, everything we build is made earthquake proof, just a few cracks etc, nothing big like the paper build houses in japan
yeah thats a good point the buildings need to be more secure but then, 172 floor scyscrappers can only be so safe and look at the damage it does to the roads and shit, not good to get caught in one of those ><
houses in iceland are build COMPLETELY diffirent then in uk, holland, japan and newhere else i've seen, it's cement, like quadrable thick wireframe, wood and some other stuff to withstand earthquakes oO something in the base forgot wat it was lol :PQuote:

roads are a bit diffirent all throughout the country, it used to be very cold there, now its just like uk, when road froze etc it had to be less slippery ;p
i forgot to say we also had a massive icestorm on christmas day 2 or 3 years ago. it shut all the power out for 3 weeks in every town and city around us. one of the states beside us was in a state of emergency because of the storm.
we had no running water, so we had to melt ice for cold water.
now we have a generator so this wont happen again :P
the only thing i like about my state is we have one thing that nowhere else in the united states or probably even north america has. DIAMONDS. we have a diamond mine in a town called murfeesburo. all you have to pay is for entry, what you find, you keep.
