When do you trust something? (Emu's,CMS,Stuff)
Hi guys :)
With a guy talking on Skype he was believing that all the stuff is good and without backdoors etc. etc.
My experience with emu's/downloads is horrible in the history here. The most ppl are banned by releasing this stuff. When is something safe and when can you use it.. hmmm. not. (read below why)
The knowledge of programming is far away for the most users, also recommended to check the sources and content management systems, or just take the risk and put it online.
But understand what you are doing with the stuff, do not think you know everything and watch out with checking the sources. Just to know, a lot people with ego or just starters from 12+.
Watch out with hosting on home networks and providers. Just think about the risks, instead of believe in this dream. I will always support the projects, but what i want to explain, understand everything what you are doing.
Some people need to wake up with this topic, it is your own risk, blind trust is also a risk.
What do you think? I think this is something to talk about sometimes, just to be clear and to inform everyone. The big hotels are not created for fun, but for pure business, they know what they are doing.
Example: The best way is to check your code or let someone do it. I got this answer in a Skype Chat:
Quote:
i'm actually just gonna block you because you're stupid lol
stick to paying people
Just explained that he need to check it (he want to release a new hotel), at the most times you can let it check by developers or just by yourself. Yes, it is here forbidden, but i will pay a developer to be sure its fine and stable. I didnt say he need to do it, but he need to be sure, with this topic also.
I said i wanna build a v26, he started with xss exploits, pretty funny, how do you know i got exploits. This is blind talking. Check your stuff before releasing it on internet.
Quote:
it's not gonna have good structure, the first thing on release an XSS script will be found
there goes your hotel
Just a example for defensive mode, i didnt release something yet, and this is what i get.... The most ragezone members know what i mean. This will be something for a few weeks and his hotel will be down.
I think a good topic to talk about this.

Completely agree with this. I've had to learn the hard way. There's a lot of false advertisement and things which really are too good to be true, it's best to avoid it.
Re: When do you trust something? (Emu's,CMS,Stuff)
The simple yet most honest answer you're going to get is, you don't trust anything. If you want to be sure that the software you're using is clean and could be used publicly, then check its source code (if it's closed sourced, then don't use it).
If you don't have the technical knowledge to do so, then don't go about attempting to open a retro. It is that simple.
Re: When do you trust something? (Emu's,CMS,Stuff)
- Never pay for anything Habbo-related.
- Never use closed source things.
- Always check the comments on threads if released.
- If people request money to "check your code", ignore them.
- Never trust anything anyone posts.
Some pretty simple things to follow when using stuff from HH people, or anyone really.
Re: When do you trust something? (Emu's,CMS,Stuff)
Spending money on something related to (illegal) Habbo servers is a waste of money anyway. It would only be a matter of time before Sulake shut you down for copying their content.
We've pretty much copied every single thing from Habbo with modifications to the CMS, custom emulators, etc and there's plenty of free resources to start your own Habbo server. Why should anyone have to pay for something which should be free in the first place?
Re: When do you trust something? (Emu's,CMS,Stuff)
Don't pay people.
Don't trust people.
Never give random people access to your server.
Never give your "friends" access to your server.
Don't trust anyone here.
That's all.
Re: When do you trust something? (Emu's,CMS,Stuff)
I suppose you can never be completely sure anything you use is secure, even if you wrote it yourself I expect there will be unknown holes that may never be found.
