Npc Taking Equipped Items

I am making a couple of Npcs that will exchange armor parts and weapons for some other stuff. Without going into extreme detail I will explain as best I can.

Example: I am an archer will full G55 equipped. I go to turn in an extra G55 archer chest I have into the npc but it takes the G55 chest I have equipped instead of the one in my inventory.

How can I get my quest to take only items in the inventory and not equipped items?
