I wanna buy vps hosting and i dont know the configuration

Hi , i wanna buy a vps hosting to host a server but I'm afraid that I'll stray , i mean when i will buy i will dont know absolutely nothing especially in settings mu IP / Port what to open what to block and in web ,

So i will receive help whenever I need ? to know what to do , to buy VPS or keep it at my house and open the server from home .
