Yes you need video card for colision between mobs and object.
All correct but if you're connecting to a dedicated server you cannot use the graphic card due the rdp which disable the d3dx drivers (the current device not will be your graphic card but the rdp graphic device which don't have support for d3dx)

Either get a graphics card or emulate one. NPC server needs hardware acceleration to detect collisions between Meshes.
