@PeterVANX The current state of this community is a mess, almost every server developer is doing things for the wrong reasons, half-decent servers keep closing down and the ones that are left are insufferable, and yet what you're wishing for would only outright kill this community (insofar as it is even still alive...).

What I think we need more of is mature people with good and serious ideas for a server that are doing it for the right reasons. People who want to create a server that actually matters and that attracts quality players. That means things like: strictly no pay2win crap no matter how tempting it is, absolute zero tolerance for hackers and cheaters even if they're your friends or staff, lower rates so that people actually have to play the game as opposed to run around on a glorified test server (imagine actually having to do quests again! Outrageous!), no rebirth systems in the slightest (maybe some endgame stat rewards of some sort but no more than that), comfort features that aren't overpowered, properly implemented new content (and if it can't be added properly, then just don't add it at all), and any new content and ideas that actually set a server apart from the large mass of everything else out there.

I think the only thing that will save this community (short of a scriptable/modifiable/open source clone that allows people to code and add their own new content) is those who want to open up a server going back to the roots of the game, prioritizing serious default play style like in official servers (minus the unforgiving vanilla rates and plus comfort features), and not creating yet another "fun" server that's barely any different from every other server out there and where you get bored to death after playing for less than a week.

A radical measure, I'm sure, but if more people started making servers under such a paradigm, these servers would probably rise and attract new kinds of players (maybe old official server players) and the remainder of crap servers would eventually die out as they should.

In this community, with this game, less is more, quite frankly, and nothing will change until we start abiding by that rule.

They're adding new classes and dungeons like it's the end of the world which tells me that they're either desperately trying to keep their player base (and milk it for more coin), or they're not planning on shutting the servers down as soon as we might think. Still, I can see your point for sure.

And generously released for free at that, which is why every time I see people showing their stuff off on here but not releasing things because they're afraid somebody will overthrow their server or whatever I get an ulcer, and why every time there's drama about free releases and how it's leeching fuel I get an aneurysm. Besides, the whole point of releasing things for free is so that developers then use them to produce their own content. However, most people in this community just download the newest server release and use it practically as-is without the slightest bit of original ideas, causing almost every server out there to be pretty much interchangeable with one another. Even the rates are largely the same lmao!

As for the rest you said, I'm interested in seeing how that will affect the community. I gather most people will still rather look for a well-populated server to play in than make their own, but hey, anything that shakes folks around a bit and forces them to start upping their server game and make CABAL servers that are actually worthwhile to play in is a good one in my book. Firstly, it's not the community that it's rotten, but the people who are unimaginative and follows stereotypes, because there is nothing else to do for them. Closed in their pc's or between their little friends circle, who are afraid to work with someone , because of the fact that partners might "steal ideas" from them. Feels like someone can invent another type of bicycle here..
I've myself, personally, tried millions of times to contact people with a bit of interest to group up and launch the server, non profit related, but instead, I get ignored or shunned, so please, spare me this whole bullshit you're talking right now. People are so stuck up in their asses that they don't even want to share the ideas, even though they can't edit even the tiniest things.
Blaming the community, while aggrandizing your own so called superior "work", simply shows that it's another type of "coming soon 2011" attempt and to put it simply: community slander and hate provocation for some unknown reasons.

Wouldn't it be better to actually put something yourself? I mean invest something in the community, rather than going into "rage mode" and trying to "kill" the section with some fantastical releases, while it's going to be literally nothing new. Lets not forget the going after more skilled people to enforce your opinion to them.
There is joel in here, he already managed to implement literally all content from current episodes into EP8 (whatever was possible), which "raped" the files badly, reached limits, but he still managed and many people has that too already, so unless you are planning to share an EP16 source, don't even bother to amaze anyone, or progress with your "Destruction of Cabal Private Servers" Plan.

There is tutorials, sorry, let me rephrase myself, 50 tutorials, which takes from 10-20 mins to launch a server. Adapting it to higher SQL or exporting to Centos - not a rocket science either. Website? There is 2 or 3 well known forums apart of Ragezone who has so many websites, that even without english, using google translate, anyone would manage to launch it and I could continue... But there is no need. I mean, it will help newbies if you manage to release everything you've named there, but since your post beginning and ending contradicted quite a bit and it raised my doubts, that you have what you are talking about.

At the moment, 80% of the people has that so called "newest content + fantasies" and another crap you named. Like literally all of the things you've named most of the servers has it.

Don't misunderstand me, I am not trying to hate or prevent you from releasing what you are planning to release, I don't have a server either, but this whole slandering of the community, blaming them, while you, yourself, will release a bunch of things collected from precisely this forum, while simply stacked them into one place and made a fancy "stackoverflow" installer, just blows my mind.
Remember, if not this community - you would be another scrub who would be sitting in the official server and hating there? I'm just fascinating by your replies how you simply collect whats not yours, give minimum effort to it and in the whole time - hating the source - and giving it as your own.

Listen to Caelann - I gather most people will still rather look for a well-populated server to play in than make their own.

The people who have their hands coming from their asses, even with the EP16 source would do nothing. It will boost up people with existing servers and that's about it. Players are looking for what Caelann said: exclusivity and stability. There was and there always will be servers and specific releases will improve them. So either some miracle will happen and a decent server will come out, with sponsorship and so on, with a unique approach and customs that will revive true Cabal's concept and players who are looking for that, will go there. I see you also keep forgetting the fact that there is more morons playing Cabal, then servers themselves, which leads to a simple, but for some unknown reason currently trendy concept: 1 hit = 1 level, 2 maps + 3 dungeons, and you are good to go. Many private servers are happy and stays long with an amount of 30 people online, so hate on their creativity, give ideas and such, not hate on the community itself and don't try to categorize everyone into one group based on your experiences or what you see in Ragezone alone, because that is simply insulting.

To finalize my reply: If you think Cabal is declining, why do you even bother? Move on. Smart people would ignore that and from your replies I assume you are one of them, but for some reason you cannot do it, maybe it's a some sort of a pique or something similar, but that's none of my business in the end.
