Need some basic guidance on where to get started (also a few questions)
I'm setting up a small server for a few friends. Could anyone point me towards which threads have what I need to setup an online server?
Additionally, I'm seeking to modify the models/meshes/textures. I know you can do this in vanilla Vindictus, but it requires a special file to do so which bypasses the hack-shield (something along those lines). My question is, do we need anything like that to modify the models/meshes/textures on a private Vindictus server? Can we add items to a private server such as new costumes from other regions?

Easiest way to get started:

I think you are referring to GSL/winnsi, yeah the one here http://forum.ragezone.com/f944/relea...tions-1127980/ should suit your needs

Yeah this can be done with some effort

Great, thanks for the direction! I assume a good deal of background experience with Source engine and modding will come in handy? I've modded a lot of different source based games, so I'm familiar with the model format.

If that's the case then you should be fine for simple models/meshes/textures.
Just curious but have you dealt with animations before?
I don't think anyone has been able to implement custom animations and then properly recompile the .mdl
Re: Need some basic guidance on where to get started (also a few questions)
Unfortunately I don't have much experience in the world of animations sorry!
Also, is the EU client the client to use for English? Why not the USA client? is the EU client superior in some way?

EU Client has a more strictly "accurate" interpretation of the Translation NA tends to just make shit up as long as it sounds cool when it comes to skill names etc also EU is XE and NA is Premiere client amongst other things

XE is just jumping, right?
EDIT: On animations, while I don't know a whole lot about them-- have you tried porting one from another source game? Might be a good place to start. It would be pretty cool to assemble some team to modify the animations and skill properties of one class to create something new.

Posted this in the server thread, but I'm posting here as well for posterity's sake:
So-- right off the bat when I load the vmware image, I notice that the network icons have a discrepancy between the icon in the system tray and the icon in the vmware workstation.
The IP address also does not show up on my router, so I can't forward any ports to it. Here are the network settings in vmware:
I'm not sure what I'm missing here lol.

I've tried recompiling Kai battle animations before (so I could get certain revamped (1.67+) battle motions on 1.65 Kai) but the compiler ran into many issues.. I've tried a newer tool like Crowbar and it had problems too.

Hm I'm not really sure what could be causing problems, they're a standard source engine format right? Perhaps they use some special settings configurations?
