Vmware setup/network issues, please help, stupid problem.
So-- right off the bat when I load the vmware image, I notice that the network icons have a discrepancy between the icon in the system tray and the icon in the vmware workstation. It appears the network connection in my virtual desktop is not connecting to the internet, and is regarded as "local only"
The IP address also does not show up on my router, so I can't forward any ports to it. Here are the network settings in vmware:
I'm not sure what I'm missing here lol.
Tried a fresh start at it and also running VMware as an administrator. No luck. Here's a screencap of what the network center looks like on a fresh install of the desktop image:
I've tested the network bridge settings and tried all of the adapters. I've also found that if I add a second network adapter and set it to automatic bridging, it works and I can connect to the internet within the virtual desktop, however I still cannot port forward to it, and I still cannot connect to the server.
Judging from this screenshot in the OP, it seems to me that the issue I'm having getting my virtual desktop to connect to the internet is the root of the problem. You can see that the network icon on the virtual desktop in this screenshot from the OP has the little green globe on it, however in my screenshot, it does not.
I feel as though I've emptied my options, I don't know what the hell to even try any more. I cannot get this thing to show up on my router, so therefore I cannot forward any ports. This is really frustrating.

Re: Vmware setup/network issues, please help, stupid problem.
Go to your Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP IPv4) Properties (same place where you normally configure DNS servers) and set it to obtain an IP address automatically

Is that something I do within the virtual desktop or something I do on my personal desktop or router?

Oh just do that in the VM

Re: Vmware setup/network issues, please help, stupid problem.
Should I also set the DNS server to be obtained automatically?
And while that got the internet to work, it also changes the ipv4 address to something other than ".0.200", I'm assuming I need to change the .0.200 ip address to the new ip, correct? Also, the new ip still does not show up on my router's list of devices, and I cannot specify an IP address when I portforward on my router-- only select a device to apply that forwarding service to.

Yeah just use the automatic or use these servers
OpenDNS
208.67.220.220 / 208.67.222.222
Google
8.8.8.8 / 8.8.4.4

So while it connects to the internet, it still does not show up on my router's list of devices-- which is a bit of a problem because I can't input a custom IP address for port forwarding:
Instead, you create a service and apply it to a device, and in this case, the VM is the device, and unfortunately it doesn't appear on the list of connected devices ;~;

You're still using Bridged mode in VMWare right?
By the way what router is this?

The router is: AT&T U-Verse Arris NVG589
I've looked it up and plenty of people have had issues with the NVG589 where it only shows 1 device, how many devices or IP's do you see on the list there?

Re: Vmware setup/network issues, please help, stupid problem.
Every other device that is connected to the network is accounted for (phones, tablets, pcs, etc) except for the VM, unfortunately :c

Re: Vmware setup/network issues, please help, stupid problem.
If it still doesn't work I would just use Hamachi. As long as its a server for a small number of people it should be alright.

The most number of people would be maybe 4-6 players, I think Hamachi could deal with that. In the mean time, I'll look in to setting up a single player offline server to get modifications set up. I can always port my changes from an offline server to an online server right? Thanks for all of your help BTW.

Yeah there shouldn't be any issues there

Word. Ok, so, I'm assuming I don't need vmware to run this stuff from my regular desktop for an offline test server, correct? I would just set the client and server IP to my local IPv4?
