What's the difference of OZT and OZJ ? Can i just rename the OZJ file to OZT and will it work ?
Not sure if that's gonna work cause OZT is having a different encoding than OZJ. But, you can try. Tell us the results tho xD
No, ozt is tga file and ozj is jpg file.
Even if the client ignore the extension and only read data in it. It won’t work.
Because ozj files use 24 dummy bytes at the front while ozt only use 4. Remove the dummy bytes and save the file as .jpg .tga...
or use tools/source here

You can rename both, but it will not work...
Basically ozj extension is jpg and ozt is tga (targa). (You didn't ask but I let you know: ozp -> png, ozb -> bmp.)
So one of the main problem with this renaming is the differences between the file formats...
Jpg images have 3 channel (Red, Green, Blue) while tga have same + alpha channel.
Both format have their own purposes.
For example: Red Spirit Pants (the correct name would be Skirt...) have transparent lace parts, that's the place where you should use ozt (tga) textures. And same goes on with the interface images: the dragon heads in the old UI, it uses tga files rather than jpg (that's the reason why it's transparent outside the main graphic).
If you want properly change the extensions, it can not be done so easily...
For UI elements you have to code.
For bmd models, you can almost do anything, it would look a little complicated if you are not familiar with modeling. In short: convert the bmd file to smd. After that you can open it in Milkshape 3D (or any other 3D modeler software which support this extension). In the materials you can see your textures. Before you do anything here, edit the textures in an image editing software (Photoshop and Gimp have support to jpg and tga files too). Moving on, change the texture on the selected material and rename it properly. Go to groups tab (if you deleted the old material and created a new one: select the group, go back to materials and assign it) and do the same (rename it). Important: the name have to contain the extension of the texture!
I hope I could help you with this explanation :):
That's right. The difference is the number of bytes from their headers, as solarismu said. You can't rename them cause the file binary would be the same, including the header. So, right, you need conversion tools for them.
Conclussion: the OZT and OZJ are file compressions for Mu, having the TGA and JPG as base.
