Need help on how to set up an NF LAN game

I need some help on setting up a NF LAN game. I need to know exactly how to do it using the current client of the private server. I want this so my brother and I can have a fight together.

This is my situation:

1) A Linksys WRT54G router.

2) One desktop computer and one laptop computer with Windows XP. Built-in firewalls are disabled.

3) Laptop has private server using SQL 2000.

I am able to login with the laptop that has the server on it. I tried to use the "hosts" file to make the desktop computer connect to it. It sees it and downloads any patches, etc. I try to login using the desktop computer, but it gives me an error message in korean.

If any of you have sucessfully set up a NF LAN server, please reply so I can try to solve this problem.

I dont think it should download any patches.

What I mean by that is that it will download any files that are corrupted, etc... from the laptop computer.

Well, it appears you want to run a server on your laptop (not the most highly recommended thing, but it's your choice), and you want to connect to the server via your desktop AND laptop computer. I'm not that farmiliar with LAN NF but it should be the same. You should just follow the guide normally except edit the hosts file with your LAN IP to connect instead of WAN IP. Running the client on the server laptop should still have localhost (127.0.0.1) in the hosts.
