problems starting webserver

ok so heres what ive done so far

downloaded apache

forwarded port 80 with my actiontec gt704-wg

setup dyndns domain for my ip and downloaded that automatic ip updater thing

configured my apache server to listen to port 80 on my domain which is
thrice64.selfip.com

...

my website isnt being able to be viewed and i dont know why... my wan ip address goes directly to my router config page...

ive also tried forwarding port 8080 and changed the apache to listen to port 8080 and still the same.. im not visible... and my firewall is allowing apache to run as a server so thats not the case..

any suggestions

Hmm.. Make sure your Port 80 isn't block (call your ISP and ask them, and make sure your firewall really didn't block in-coming and out-going traffic), hope this helps.

im on a router.. so im 192.168.0.2 and my router is 192.168.0.1

when i lookup my external ip address it is just the same as 192.168.0.1 instead of 192.168.0.2..

how do i find my external ip address to my comp.. instead of my router..

Portforward Port 80, 8080 on your router depending which one you are using

Also disable remote router, because the remote ip + 8080 usually is the router ip ;)

im forwarding port 8080 right now and i have apache running and no one can connect still

What router model you have?

Eh.. Don't use http://ipchicken.com/ not really accurate for me. Try http://whatismyip.com/

The point of the router is to split up your external IP into seperate parts to multiple computers, via port assisngment. So, if you dedicate incomming port 80 for the router, it automatically says, ok, lets goto the computer that the port was assigned to. For someone remote to your network, like myself, i would have to go, http://(yourExternalIp):80 . Or if your using a domain name, setting up the domain needs to be the one where you enter in the IP address AND the PORT. If your setting up a DNS and not specifying a port than there is no point unless that redirection service is dedicated to only webservers on port 80.

Im sure you know most of this already, but its just for clarification. Now, when setting up with a DNS, it will take time to apply it self. But if you already waiting a few hours after setting up the DNS, than I'm not to sure. But, try this if you already have not:

- Turn on the webserver software, use port 80, redirect it via router, RE-Setup the DNS configuration with port 80, and give it maximum 5 hours. If nothing is responding, contact the DNS people you are dealing with, they can further assist you.
