That really depends on the server load m8. What kind of server are you hosting? Will it be open to a large number of people? Or will it simply be a LAN based server? Most importantly you'll need the bandwith to handle the large number of incomming connections. A decent processor 3GHz+ & 1GB RAM should be more than sufficient but then again, depends on server capacity. Graphics card need not be considered as the server is console(text) based and not the actual game - unless your planning on playing from the server as well.
running the game on the server is just not a good idea. even if you want (just like me) to run the server for your own amusement, you want the maximum response, so you need 2 computers at least. One for the server and the other for the client.
For the server, you need tons of ram, whatever you can have is good as long as is higher than 512mbs. Can you afford 8Gbs of RAM? GO FOR IT! Akaruz recommended 4Gbs of ram, but at this point, when the memory cards are becoming more cheaper, there should be no problem if you want to run a good internet server. Lets say 4Gbs
As for the processor, its the same thing, Pentium is a must, but if it can be dual, go for it. hp sells computer servers for 800 u$s and up, with nice options.
And as for the client side 512 mbs of ram and a pretty good card works fine, even on modest processors. (Dont start me up, you should see the computers we have here in my city, what a museum I could build from it).

so sorry =P but from my experience (15 years as programmer and computer tecnical) intel is more expensive precisally because its better, both processors are motherboards. Since I live in third wolrd I can accept the fact I have no access to better hardware than this. I have recommended intel both for particular users and companies, and I never had to regret myself for that. Of course, most people here want to buy a cheap computer, and thats precisally what generates somes problems (and allow buggie hardware manufactures to grow, unfortunally).

yep but the opteron will be faster than a normal intel ;) and its a server option ;)
for instance RZ was before on dual xeon and it kinda sucked on the db , changing to dual opteron improved a lot
