Do you know what DVD stands for?
yes i do, infact i knew years ago, i wont post it here tho :)
(Digital VideoDisc or Digital Versatile Disc) An optical digital disc for storing movies and data. Introduced in the U.S. in 1997, and developed by both the computer and movie industries, the disc uses the same diameter platter as a CD (120mm/4.75" diameter), but holds 4.7GB [wich 4.7 Gb its wrong, in other words the true DVD capacity its 4.3 gb] rather than 700MB. Whereas CDs use only one side, DVDs can be recorded on both sides as well as in dual layers. DVD drives/players read most CD media as well.
good stuff until blue ray got to stores.
Well done you ruined his poll lol :P
But i knew what i stood for anyway..
Digital Video Disc isnt the same thing as Digital Versatile Disc ;)

No idea,
but I don't care.
DVD's are so out lived. They lasted for only 10 years unlike the VHS. And yes I do know what they are.
Also by the way if you didn't know. By the year 2008 there will be no more DVD's. They will be replaced by Sony's BlueRay and HD-DVD's.
NoPeace - out
i always thought the DVD movies were digital video disks wherelse the blank DVD's for computer use were digital versatile disks...
esit: lol robert... just cos they couldn't come to aggreement on what it should stand for doesn't mean it doesn't stand for anything... imo its both, jsut depends on what its being used for (DVD game would obviously be diff to the DVD movie)
i only knew they could hold alot of data on it
but i used to think DVD meant Disk Versus Disk
kinda stupid lol
i'm almost sure the1st DV or digital video disc had another name ( as in the golden discs - yes i do have a few , stupid sony )Quote:

Dark Versatile D**do i think......... ^^ or rather Dark Violet Donut..
i can almost guarantee you that half of rz things it stands for Digital Video Disk but thats not true :P anyone that thinks that go to www.google.com type in this exact phrase (without the quotes) "Define: DVD"
o also dvd is olllllld lol its the new vhs and bluray is the new dvd with 50 gigs of precious space....
Digital Versatile Disk, It was changed from Digital video disk because this seemed unfit for the new technology.
So the correct answer is: Digital Versatile Disk
Don't argue with me either as i did an assignment on it :1:
i like Dark Violet Donut better... it sounds yummy ^^
yeah I'm pretty sure DVD is an acromyn, I know the US likes the throw letters and words together like throwing magnetic letters on a 'fridge and having a match. In any case Blue ray disc wont just be dual layered, but from engadet (or joystiq) they're making 8 layered 200gb beasts :O....
LOL ever since things went digital piracy went up so much lol now its inivitable every time the mpaa tries to take down a server like the pirates bay they only bring them more publicity and increase piracy lol.... i mean i would personaly buy more movies if they were cheaper and what i find stupid is that when ppl purchase dvd's cds etc etc a portion of the money spent purchasing it goes to the record companies and movie companys so that they make up for their loses from piracy so why are those fuckers trying to get more money when their getting all their loses back through the overpricing of the legit dvd's and blank cd's and dvds along with many other crap thats not told to you when your purchasing something lol.
yeah DVD stands for (Digital VideoDisc or Digital Versatile Disc)
It used to be called Digital Video Disk when it first came out because the creators didn't realise that you could store more than just videos on them. When they started using them for games the changed the name to Digital Versatile Disk so as not to look stupid :3
I knew it along time go.. When i was 10 i guess.. Thats about 7 years ago.. :P
Sounds like a "define" search in google....Quote:

I believe this poll is asking "Do you know what DVD stands for?", and not "Does google know what DVD stands for?".Quote:
