Do mmo's bore you?

I'm actually tired of playing mmo's for some reason, I'm not really sure why. I guess because of all the competition with being the best I just got tired of caring.
L2 was a blast when there was the motivation :p and I played MU for like 2 years but private servers last only so long. RF was boring as hell and there was no one to conversate with, Ragnarok was probably the only one I actually enjoyed every minute of playing since it didn't have full 3D graphics as eye candy to re-assure you're playing for the "graphics" and not really for the game itself.

the Next game I've tried is Cabal and well....the graphics aren't bad but for a game that was made in this year I think they could use a little polish. The gameplay is a little different for my taste and I'm probably not going to continue to play. It just doesn't seem like a game I'd enjoy :\. and I wouldn't dare put my money into it, I'd rather pay for L2 ;p

Gate to Heavens was great but I think the staff shut down the servers O.o; I guess too many hackers. Silkroad was good for a little bit, but SUN probably takes the cake. It's fast, fun, easy, and most of all: the lvl'ing is rather quick....if you choose the battle system. Yes, that too has gotten boring (prolly cause I'm playing on my third character cause of stat point screw-ups), and it's hard to keep playin a game when you can't interact with just about anything because of the language border (.....I could learn a little korean :p).

Do you think mmo's are overrated and there needs to be less of them? or what about disverity?

Hmm, not really, i like MMO's and they are the only thing i play at the moment. An MMO makes fun that GameMasters can hold events, so they will never get boring, well at least in a long time if the events vary. In MMO's you can never be the best, so you gotta just keep being BETTER. Of course getting better gets boring.. but if you are like me, you wont get bored to it. My opinion, i love MMOs, and the current MMO i play is World of Warcraft, wich dosent run out of point for me :9

I believe that MMO's are never really boring. It's just that some people take them to seriously. For example, my friend loves to take RO extremely serious. He never stops leveling or doing quests or whatnot. I, on the other hand, useually sit down in town (Prontera) and converse with other players. In which case the game never really gets boring for me. I take the game little by little instead of just always leveling and such.

Not at all boring, in fact that's what I play when I am bored.

Pretty much the most entertaining part in MMORPG's for me was the competition, I enjoyed many games when I had the chance to play them sickeningly much, but it gets old eventually and in the end what's left is nothing but lots of wasted time. They are nice when you want to just pass time but these days I wish time didn't proceed so fast.

I'd say I've grown out of MMORPG's, somewhat. I still like to try the new ones and play some good oldies every now and then, but I never keep up with others level-wise anymore and then it soon gets boring for me as I realize the game itself doesn't offer much.

For some months, maybe a little longer, I've had something of a motto: aim for self-improvement, in games I seldom develop anything but bruises in my sitting muscles :tp: so I try to keep away from them excluding a few hours every now and then.

yeah their fun for a wile, but then I just get sick of them and stop playing. But after a wile I'll get the urge to play one again. FFS FTW! lol

The MMORPG genre is getting very boring to me. I've played countless fully 3d games that are all basically the same.. Right now I'm playing Gunz, and I'm having a blast, because its fun and completely skill based. I think a true MMORPG that played like Gunz would be the perfect game.

Gunz is completely lag based, not skill based

You're my kind of gamer ;D. I did that in gate to heavens and I still managed to keep my lvl among those who slaved over their computers for hours and hours. When I leave an mmos I believe is the only real point in time when everyone surpasses me.

i think that what really boresabout MMO that gennraly they r all the same.
lvl up get stronger and pvp, ovcourse there r many games out there that offer alot from the side to keep u intrested like quests, special tasks, skills like fishing or blacksmithing etc,
but overall, at least from my point of view, anyway u look at that they r all the same.
and yet i still cant figure out y i keep playing them :p

I'm generally getting sick of the FANTASY Hack n' Slash genre that seems to flood the MMO scene.

I'd try ANYTHING away from that, and right now I'm eagerly waiting for Huxley and Tabula Rasa. With the exception of Ragnarok Online 2, I liked RO :D

All mmo's atm are prettey similar to each other, so they lose their 'zing' after a week or so of playing. I've moved onto BF2 for a little while because mmo's have bored me to high heavens and it's something a little different.

MMORPGs are boring sometimes but theres only one reason for that. Its because you play them too much. I played alot of MMORPGs throughout my life (that almost makes me sound like a nerd...O.o), and i found that mmorpgs all basically try to appeal to as much of the market as possible for a period of about 6 months (untill they can come up with market techniques to get more people playing their game, also expand content and etc). The thing that makes the game boring after a couple of months of playing is that about 1-2 months of the game, you really begin to understand the structure of the game and apply your ideas (or steal ideas from others) to make yourself one of the most successful players. After the first 1-2 months, you begin to reach your previous goals, so you start to develop even higher ones (aka...you're prolly no longer a newb), higher goals means going places where you havent gone before...and making shitloads of money. After you experience pretty much all the mmorpg has to offer....you're no longer interested, so you wait for new content to come into the game....which sometimes might take another month or two....so you either quit for that amount of time....or you just dont really even wanna wait for the new content cuz you're so bored.

Many MMORPG devs found that out (in the early stages of MMORPGs...back in the days when MMORPGs like Ultima were king), and theres really only a couple ways to combat the whole "Our customers are bored with MMORPG" thing. The Asian developers seem to combat it with crazy grind times (name any popular Korean MMORPG for example, all have frigin insane grinds, hell people die in korea because they dont get enough rest or food sometimes....all just cuz of grinding like their life depended on it). The whole grind really screwed up some customers though, those that actually have lives, the devs found that not many people can keep up with grinding that long....after a while people just give up and stop playing because their lives are more important to them than a bunch of data on a server they will prolly never see =P.

I recently discovered that there is also another way (although not as popular as the grind), to expand the amount of time a person is interested in the mmorpg. This way of keeping customer interest, expands the amount of things to do in the game, as well as the world size and the overall application of thought towards the game. Ofcourse its much easier to do the grind thing rather than sit there and try to design a game thats actually interesting for long periods of time, this is why grind-mmorpg designs are much more popular (but statistically speaking...a mmorpg which has alot of structure...will keep its players much much longer than a uber-grind mmorpg). So far the only mmorpg i found using almost no grind is EVE Online, although its not a "perfect" design, in my opinion, its one of the best MMORPG designs out in the market right now. (/advertising off >.< lol)

Also keep in mind, sometimes you might need a break from playing MMORPGs.....or maybe start to make more friends in MMORPGs =P. I also found that after maybe a year or two of playing the same MMORPG, its not really the game that keeps you goin, its your friends.

I'm trying to get away from MMOs, as dr. stated you begin to realize the one of the only things pulling you in is "I'm going to be the player"

I'm now starting StarCraft (again) and Dungeon Siege II (again) :)

Hmm, well to be honest I don't think any MMO requires "skill" sports that requires "skill" lol
But, I am like gate keeper now. I just get bored playing most MMO's and with all of the people that sit on there computer day and night it gets really boreing.

Anything you do excessively and you'll get bored of it eventually. People who take things moderately enjoy it more then those who do the same thing over and over again.

And right now the MMO scene is so boring cause it's all so god damn generic with the Hack n' Slashers within the Fantasy theme.

I've played Space Cowboy Online and Auto Assault recent and must say those kind of games bring something fresher to play since they're a new concept.

i cant even focus on jack for more than a few seco...

nice posts guys at least I don't feel like the only one who gets bored. Usually when I do get bored I do something either really stupid ingame, or just sit there and chill with people.

well with SUN and a dear lack of english players that's not really a good idea if I want to keep my account ;) but I'm only playing the game for at most two hours every other day now and it's 'zing' is coming back.

well u mention a good point there, ever happend to u that u got bored from MMO's i mean to the point u got realy sick of them, and u stop playing them, and after a month or so u have an unexplainable "thirst" for MMO's agian.

is it just me?
