Setting up a SP server: noobie-style (DISCUSSION THREAD)

In order for us to diagnose your problem please include the following information in an organized manner. In other words copy this and paste it then fill it out and submit your request.


Which server did you setup?

Are you sure you followed the instructions? (Please recheck your settings before posting)

Which patch are you using?

Is the server and the game running on the same machine?

Does your realmlist located in WoW Directory say "set realmlist 127.0.0.1" ?

Does your wowemu.key located in your server folder have a line that says "ws-host=127.0.0.1" ?

Are you online while trying to run the server, or are you offline? (This doesn't mean are you trying to host the server just simply were you online when you ran the wowemu server?)

What seems to be the problem?

i have only the cliente 1.11.2 here....can i make my client work with this server files?

1.11.2 hackpatch was not released yet, as far as I know.. just wait

Which repack did you use?

Gustin I suggest you either revert to 1.8 or use the official servers. You can copy your WoW folder before you change it so that you'll be able to keep your 1.11.2 WoW and still have a 1.8 to play on.

how do i edit the realmlist.wtf file? or am i looking at the wrong file?

its in thw /wow directory, theres a realmlist.wtf and then theres one thats like 382h38hada.wtf ( bunch of random stuff) edit both.

ok so ive gotten passed that...
the next thing i am on is "2. You are currently connected to the internet, you will need to do the following: Start-Run- type cmd then type ipconfig. You need the first ip that is shown. After you have your ip do the following Start-Run- " lol i cant post the url ...

I keep getting the message cannot find server.... how do i continue?

If server and game are on the same computer it seems you made and error while editing your files.

inside your wow directory is a realmlist file you want to change it to say set realmlist 127.0.0.1

inside your server folder locate the wowemu.key and edit it to say ws-host=127.0.0.1

Then login.



If the server and game are on different computers then you will have to wait until I update the guide to include lan options.

get your ip by the steps I listed. Then you will need to go to your browser and type http:// your ip :8080/ there should be NO spaces, and understand you have to put :8080 that isn't optional.

YAY A NOOBIE THREAD!

Well I guess I registered just in time. Let me lay out basically what I'm trying to do rather than ask a zillion questions. Then maybe you can give me advice/direction.

Basically I'm looking to run a Server for my Guild to be used merely as a practice enviornment. I would like them to be able to use their current client version. I noticed that up until a few hours ago the Delphin release would have accomadted that. However when I tested the Delphin myself. There wasn't any NPC spawned on the Horde side so I'm guessing although that release looks promising it is in too early a stage to consider. So for example right now my Guild will be starting attempts on C'Thun. What I would like to do is:

1. Mirror copy my stable members (approx 50), I assume this will need to be done individually and manually to the server I will be running.
2. Have them all join, basically teleport us all to AQ40 and make attempts on C'Thun using the gear we have.

My reason is simple I want to create a practice enviornment saving us all time and repair costs and help us become better prepared and speed up progression.

better off doing a Project rage emulator and having your members copy and paste there wow install folders and make one of them for playing on private and they can leave the origional one for public.

I'm sorry but this guide does not cover setting up Public servers. Though I would like to direct you to UWC 1.3.4 It seems very stable though it has it's obvious flaws it's about as good as you're going to do on a non-blizz server. I've also heard good things about WoWWoW but I have been unsuccesful in my attempts at running it.

I agree with K-Rock, they're not going to be able to use the same WoW directory for public and online. The latest blizz patches arn't supported by the latest emulators, plus the ones that are, are hacked so I don't believe they'll work on and official server and you really don't want blizz to catch you trying.

the only other question i have is can i have more then just myself playing on my private server and if so... how can i have them connect to me? i just planned on having like 3 or 4 people max...

the server is good, i've tried it... but the only problem is, when i exited the server then when i relog it again, the characters were deleted? what should i do regarding this situation? :(

Oh, yeah sorry about that. I ment to add this to the Frequent Problems section.


When you login be sure to either type .save (your password) or type x in the server cmd box.

What this does is it saves the World, including your characters.

Note: You have to be GM to use .save (password) command.

im having the same problem (i think) that tamarisk is having... when i loaded up wow for the first time i had the wrong patch so i went thru your help section and fixed it... now the problem i am having is that blizz tries to update the patches every time i try to log in. is it possible to some how skip that? i get the same message that tamarisk had on the we_dk-core screen. oh and is it possible to use higher lvl patches and how do i get others to connect to my server?

What seems to be the problem?
WE_DK-Core loads, but as soon as I attempt to create an account, it crashes. Same happens as soon as I attempt to run wow.exe

You're realmlist has been revertied to it's original state. You are trying to connect to an official blizzard server. Go back and change your realmlist file back to 127.0.0.1 This will fix the Blizzard uploader problem.

It seems you're having an internal problem and it doesn't seem to be related to UWC. What operating system are you running? And do you get any error messages when it closes?

Since WoW.exe is crashing as well, it sounds like you may have a virus, trojan, spyware, malewar, greyware etc. Try running the following programs to clean up your system: Adaware SE Personal, (your antivirs, if you don't have one try avast it's free), ewido. Do a google search to find these.

A fix could be reinstalling WoW but since we don't know that's for certain you might want to use this as a last resort.

I'm running XP, and I don't mean that wow.exe crashes - the server crashes when I try to run wow. WoW starts up fine.

Oh, and no error messages, however, this is the error_dump.log file if it helps:

Guys I can honestly say I don't what's causing your patch problem and what's causing the server crash. Though if I figure it out I will let you know, I'm sure someone else will know how to fix the problem and they will help you more than I can.

i downloaded that file--> wow-1.8.0-enus-patch.exe
and is shows me that error! whats the problem with the language?...
