Ban Dihydrogen Monoxide!

Dihydrogen monoxide is colorless, odorless, tasteless, and kills uncounted thousands of people ever year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation of DHMO, but the dangers of dihydrogenmonoxide do not end there. Prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO can include excessive sweating and urination, and possible a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and body electrolyte imbalance. For those who have become dependant, DHMO withdrawal means certain death.

Dihydrogen monoxide is also known as hydric acid, and is a major component of acid rain. It:
contributes to the greenhouse effect
may cause severe burns
contributes to erosion of our natural landscape
accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals
may cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes
has been found in excised tumors of terminal cancer patients

Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake, and reservoir in America today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has been found in Antarctic ice. In the midwest alone DHMO has caused millions of dollars of property damage.

Despite the danger, dihydrogen monoxide is often used:
-as an industrial solvent and coolant
-in nuclear power plants
-in the production of styrofoam
-as a fire retardant
-in many forms of cruel animal research
-in the distribution of pesticides
-as an additive in certain "junk-foods" and other food products

Even after washing, produce remains contaminated by this chemical. Companies dump waste DHMO into rivers and the ocean, and nothing can be done to stop them because this practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer!

Its actually really bad but you seemed to forget that it can have its uses as well. There many things that are needed but can be deadly. This gas tho is seriously dangerous and there are many deaths caused by it and they even sell detectors for it which are like smoke detectors but detect Dihydrogen Monoxide. Anyway my opinion is theres no reason to Ban it if theres easy safety measures that help avoid harmful inhalation.

Sounds quite annoying though. Never heard of it, so I suppose it's not THAT big of a problem (yet).
It does however have a part in global pollution and warming, so Im all for banning it.


The US government is being soooooooo stupid for ignoring the environment in favour of their economy. They fail to realize that if the global environment goes bananas a good economy wont help.

The world is screwed anyway, banning it now probably won't make a significant difference.

This was an actual test placed on the streets of New York...petitions people signed, but the government obviously doesnt give a crap because it is...yes... WATER.

It's the same thing as saying end Women's Sufferage...barely anyone knows what sufferage means (right to vote). They did the same thing in New York with the sufferage thing.


Edit: Everything I originally posted IS true about water. You cannot have acid rain without water and Sulfer Dioxide(the stuff factories smoke out). Those two combined create acid rain and DO contribute to the greenhouse effect; anyone that tells you otherwise is an idiot. The way I see it, banning water would just make it easier :) I need my paper damnit!

i tough it sounded wrong but the reason so many people sign it, like i would, is because of carbon monoxide which is a truly dangerous gas and many people don't like correcting someone thats fighting for a cause :P. well anyway this little trick is being moved to the humour section as now since it turns out to be a joke its not worthy of being here no more :P

My chemistry teacher gave that to us and half of the class wanted to ban water. O.O

you have a point. Just to add a bit of punch to that point.

Plants need CO2 to survive, thats common knowledge. Oxygen is a corrosive gas that can kill a plant in high amounts, animals being natures balancing poitn to plants. We can get cancer from oxygen and if all animals become extinct so will the plants.....yet, we still need it to survive.

The planet is alot older than we rae and has been through alot more shite, the only thing that we may destroy is us and maybe a few outher species. life has a nack for sticking around. Some form of life will survive, dapt and evolve into a new being.

we can argue about it all we want, even if we do stop all of the toxicity from effecting the planet, we`re not going to be here for much longer (as a species) so either do something constructive about it or stop bitching, we`re screwed no matter what the outcome is.

What the hell do you mean by means of no reproduction? Sooner or later your mammal instincts kick in and you reproduce no matter what. With science today, it would probably be improbable for a disease to wipe us out(even the bird flu, which is already being somewhat contained). And dont bring up AID's...I dont plan on having sex with anyone I dont know. And the amount of Loners, anti-socialists, and homosexuals in the world is probably only 25% or less; most people that may come off that way get over themselves...unless they turn to drinking. Damn alcohol, I say we ban alcohol!

the most we could do is wipe ouselves and most other species out. That doesn`t mean that the world has ended does it. It just means we`re fucked.

secondly when the sun explodes the planet will have been long gone. The sun is going to grow as it does it`ll destroy the planet, but thats long before it dies.

As a species we can`t effect the planet as dramattically as we think, we can and do screw it up royaly but not to te extent of destroying it.

oh and I didn`t mean banning water I meant the substance that has the same chemichal composition XD I was just too lazy to copy it`s name and paste it.

An ice age wouldn`t kill all the animals now would it. quite a few oceanic animals will survive, possibly a few land animals.

Peace is possible it`s just never going to happen because we`re all fuckmooks as a whole. it`s not the opinion of a hippy just of someone who`s realistic. Not only is it highly improbable on a scale that dwarfs the mind but we don`t have the right mind set to solve our problems first, and then there`s the problem with the fact that if we do achieve peace, it most probably won`t last for more than half a year at most.

You're right that the planet will die long before the sun will, but the sun isn't growing. The volume of the sun has actually remained essentially unchanged throughout the course of history, but the MASS of the sun has been decreasing. I didn't mean for this to be offensive or anything, but just thought I'd catch your mistake real quick ^^

In about 2 or 3 billion years the sun WILL expand though. it'll become a red giant, so large that the earth will be swallowed up by it.

So I was right...thought so, but input is always accepted :D

That's ONE theory of what will happen. NO ONE can predict how the sun will explode since it isnt a normal star.


And an Ice Age without the Sun WOULD kill every animal. The sea would freeze entirely(even if it takes 1,000 years) because there is NOTHING heating it. The only reason the sea was sheeted in ice during the first Ice Age was because there WAS a source of heat(the sun).

And how would the Earth already be gone when the Sun is? The Earth isnt a star and it wont implode in on itself. Unless you mean humans will somehow destroy it(I mean the actual rock...). Throwing a nuclear bomb into the core of earth would probably kill us all, but it wouldnt destroy the planet. Maybe I'm behind on my chaos...


Edit: Keep in mind that bacteria isnt an animal. Bacteria will probably survive any Ice Age you can throw at them, even without the Sun. Like the bacteria in 40,000 year old ice(40,000 or 4,000,000? :O).

Wrong. Our sun will never become a supernova, for it simply isnt big enough. Only the biggest of stars can become supernovas. And even then, a supernova doesnt destroy an entire galaxy.

There have been a few reports of supernovas, seen a thousand or more years ago. It's supposed to have been a lot brighter than the moon at night.
This star was relatively close to our solar system.

The sun as a star is failry small in comparison to other stars, and yes it is an ordinary star. And notonly can it not become a supernova but it can`t become a black hole either because there isn`t ebogh energy for it to implode. after it has become a red giant it will burn out it`s fuel and then cease to exist as a sun. The gasses that are left will float around.
