[X360]To get or not to get

Upside is that it's a nice powerful system with good games, downside that it's quite expensive.

I thought at first it wasn't, untill i found out that the core package has no harddrive, and you need the X360 harddrive, so you basicly have to buy the 400 euro version or you will be just screwing yourself, as the harddrive is 100 euro, and the core is 300, but then you don't have a wireless controller, or the headset (and a remote control i think)

So if i would get the X360 with Test Drive Unlimited then i'm down 460 euro... not exactly cheap. Which is why i'm wondering if it's worth the money, a computer upgrade is double that, but then again that is more powerful.

Which leaves me with some questions
1. How good is it compared to a high end computer
2. Can it play Divx videos, i know a lot of DVD players can these days
3. How much can you do with the Xbox Live Silver
4. Are there are problems i should know about
5. Are there any things that are awesome extras that i don't know yet?

1. not really comparable, the games are totally different.
2. no simple answer, i think they did it to decrease the amount of illegal vids watched on it
3. preety much reserve a gamertag and maybe download some of the content (not sure) theres a 2 month free peroid soon for gold membership so if you wanna try it out i'd do something soon
4. well i wouldnt recommend changing the orientation of the console is a bad move.
5. the arcade features are excellent, and there are a lot of good downloadable content.

How are the games totally different? Have i been missing something? Last time i checked a large amount of the games are both on the Xbox (360) and the PC, so how good is it? How is the framerate and graphics?

It sucks it doesn't play DivX... perhaps i can find some homebrew for that

What do you mean with changing the orientation?

Are the arcade stuff and the other downloadable content all with Xbox Live Silver, or do you need Gold for it?

Most the games coming out for xbox360 are only for that system (for now) so they can get a boost in sells. I for one am going to wait for ps3, as you can see xbox cost alot to. They just set it up different to think your getting a deal.

the games that are both pc and xbox 360 (of which i can name none) will probably feature the same gameplay etc. but most of the games i play are just 360 exclusive, which feature excellent framerates and graphics most rivaling top pc games atm.

you may find a homebrew although i find it unlikely.

i mean from it being on its side to it being vertical, scratches up the games...my pdz doesnt work anymore cus of that.

the arcade stuff should be available with silver although i cant be 100% but like i said, theres a 2 month free gold trial coming up so that you can see the difference.

p.s. cameron please dont hijack a 360 thread with your ps3 dirt.

The PS3 is a bad deal, simple as that, costs more, and Sony is just trying to screw you with crap.

Anyway some of the best titles like Oblivion and Test Drive Unlimited are also on PC (well TDU will be in a month)

I did found homebrew with a quick search, but it just streams from the PC, which makes it useless as i can just use my PC then...

I also posted about it on a different forum, and found out i would also need a VGA cable that would set me back 20-30 euro... i would nearly pay 500 euro with 1 game, that's just way to much right now, perhaps later when it has had a price drop (it will when the PS3 and Wii are released) and i got a TV so i won't need to buy 1 of those cables aswell.

I do want a X360, but it's just to much right now.

The 360 has this Features:
1.It has Backward compability with some games (Working on it)
2.It has Full Private Chat, you can chat with someone else while playing different games (working on multiple chat)
3. Custom Soundtrack with every game
4. DECORATE YOUR XBOX FROM INSIDE OUT!!!
5. Full Private Video Chat. Video chat with people in some games (Mostly arcade games, such as UNO, Texas Hold'm and Etc)
6. Connect your 360 with your PC, can play music from your pc and view pictures from PC.
7. Download games, Trailers, Demos, Themes, gamer pictures, and many more.
8. Hook Keyboard, Ipod, camera with the USB port.
the list can go foreeever but I g2g sleep soon. Trust me get 360, they might not have good games out but they will soon.

im geting my xbox 360 tommrow im geting the core system and the 64mb memory card + project gotham raceing for £219.97 ;) brand new too
and i have oblivion and dead rising waiting for me to play them =(

1. How much of a high end computer are you talking about? Some games on the 360 plays better then a e6700 and crossfire x1900. Some games do a little less. But it's about the same for experience. Anything less the 360 owns it. Especially in HD.

2. Not to sure. I've set it up to work with my laptop and used a divx movie on it like that and it worked.

3. Chat, download stuff, and get your tag. Basically everything but play games.

4. The older ones have problems locking up but the new ones don't. Some have loud DVD players some dont. Depends on your luck on which one you get. Also there are slight freezing problems with the 360 if you don't keep it ventalated or the psu cool. But that's like that with any computer.

5. Awsome extras? Well the HD-DVD player add on is going to cost about $300. Much less then the stand alone units at $500-600. Tons of good games also. Gears of Wars, Lost Planet, Call of Duty 3 and so much more will be out along with all the current ones that are great.

Ps3 gonna rock xbox comapred to me, i played Project gotham racing and it started laging i shouldnt expectthat from a next gen console, ps3 has more hardware and it is more advanced thats why it cost more and yes i do hate what they did with the cost for it though an examples of games that r gonn go for pc from xbox 360 probably fable 2 Call of duty 2 and more in the futrue im not sure about Halo Wars but prolly not

ps3 sucks big time only dded thing rly is the blue ray disk but thats also a bad poitn cuz were 360 games cost

xbox came before ps3 cuz they knew if they got it out at the same time as ps3 no1 would buy it :)

Most of the costs of the PS3 is because of the Blu Ray drive, which is also i believe the reason why it's release date been changed so many times, because they are short in drives, and not a little bit either.
It will take long before it finally comes out in Europe (wouldn't be surprised to see it released even later), and even then you need to be fast, or you can still wait ages before they are available again.

Basicly that blu-ray drive is screwing them, but Sony just wants to push it through, but it's going to cost them, and i seriously doubt it will really be succesful.

I think Sony is going to make huge losses, and it's simply because they are greedy, they want the blu-ray to be succesful so that it will be the replacement of the DVD, which if works, would get them lots and lots of money, but it's just looking bad now.

X360 isnt so pricy if u`ve got a good TV already.

I myself like the 360, I don't have one but the controllers fit in your hands almost better than the gamecube's wavbird with rubmle feature :p (urse you nintendo >_<). Aside from the controller the games look great, and the 360 has a good, strong line-up as well. Dead Rising super cool :p, gears of war is going to rock out loud, and other games you just can't see on computers yet.

Will the PS3 beat microsoft? yes and in only one category: technology. They only want the blue ray, and people with hd tv's already in their house; no one else. Shame how sony's alienating kids thinking $600 is a walk through the park, when that could be food for three months or more, a good car payment, etc. etc (yes I know that's blind bias saying that stuff, but you gottremember it's expensive)

PS3 was delayed Twice.
The first reason was the price of Blueray disk, they knew if they released it with 360, the games would be waaay to expensive (around 100) so they waited next year. This year its been delayed until march of 07...I dont know if that is true though...

It is true, but only in Europe, the reason for that is because they can't make enough consoles (more specificly blu-ray drives) before the original release date

I have one, it's a PC version (basicly the controller with wire, a converter to plug it in a regular USB socket, and a disc with Windows drivers - it can be simply used in the X360 aswell), and i like it, it's nice yes.

Ehm what the hell are you talking about? The reason why PS3 will be shit is because of the blu-ray, it's the reason why the PS3 is going to cost so much, as it's very expensive to make.
Now you might say people want it for that, but that's a load of crap as blu-ray is hardly used at all, DVD is still the standard, the main reason of Sony putting in the blu-ray is in the hope it will become the next standard, but due to the costs of it, people will simply pass it up.


Btw people, it's Blu-Ray, not Blue-Ray.

I love my 360. Totally worth getting... but its 100% better with XboxLive :p

Not really... The Xenos GPU that the 360 uses is a more powerful version of the current top of the line ATI card. In fact it's being used as a guidline for the DX10 card that ATI is making and comming out next year.

Where as the PS3 uses a slowed down version of the G71. Which is the gForce 7900. And that GPU is inferior to the Xenos.

The PS3 does have a good processor. A 2.8ghz Cell processor. It's much more powerful then the 3.4ghz processor that the 360 use but it's actually much slower then that it was orginnaly sposed to be.

Also the PS3 does have a BluRay player but the 360 has the abillity to add on an HD DVD player. So in terms of play back they are pretty equal in quality. Though the BluRay is much slower then the standard DVD player of the 360 and it doesn't really matter as most game will never be over 10gb any time soon so the extra storage of the BluRay is pointless.

What the PS3 does have over the 360 is HDMI support with the 60gb version. Then again you can buy the HDMI add on for the 360 by the end of the year. Even then the PS3 wont actually come with the cable so you'll need to spend $100 for it and with the 360 you can just spend the same ammout for the add-on with the cable.

Well that $300 was the estimate that I've read a while ago. They are actually $199. Much cheaper then what they said it was going to be.

Also the 360 might drop in price to $200 and $300 when the PS3 is released. Simply to utterly kill any hope in the PS3's success and slighly hurt the Wii.

There's no way the PS3 will do well when you can get a 360 for less then half with almost all 3rd party games on both systems.

1. well to a high end computer it would get stomped due to the fact the cpu is garbage but the gpu is pretty damn good but when the 7950gtx came out the gpu kinda lost its touch

2. you have to convert your videos to wmv to play which sux for the fact you lose quality.

3. really all silver is for is making sure you have your system fully updated to be able to play more standard xbox games.

4. system is very heat sensitive. there is rumors going around that there is going to be a version 2 with a better cpu but again that is a rumor.

5. The big ones is the Xbox live vision camera because you can mask your face on to in game charcters in some games. the media center extender will allow you to be able to stream tv from your media center pc with a tv tuner card to your 360. Lots of exclusive games.

You are kidding right? The g71 is an inferior GPU then the r500. The only reason why the 7950 is fast is because it's two of them. The r500 in every which way if supior then the g71. Image quality, texturing, and HDR support.

Yes they are very heat sensitive. Hell the PS2 can be heat sensitive also. It's all down to the ventilation of the system. As long as it has good air flow there will be no problems.

And yes there's going to be a section version of the xbox 360. Just like there was with the PS2 and xbox. The current CPU is on a 90nm process I belive. So what can they do about it? Turn it into a 65nm process. That would make it cheaper to make and run a hell of a lot cooler.

How can you tell when it comes out? Simply when you see the price drop around $100. 65nm is already made and should be out by the end of the year. They are thinking about dropping the price when the PS3 lauches so soon after that they all should be 65nm.

OMG DONT BUY XBoX 360 ur bills will be sky high and what do u know mabye ur house will burn down wait till the ps3 comes out....ps3 will have optical controllers and all....and they look sooo preettttyyy......and dont buy the tv-remoted wii to :D ps3 is the best.....cmon ps is the thing.....sexbox isnt so great...ps2 has divx player mp3 player and all kinda shit....well i hope u will wait till the ps3 will come out :D....i played xbox 360 with my friend....it was painfull.....overheat,overheat,overheat....cant understand why he still likes it :P
