My new hobby =)

For those who can't see what they are: they are gliders (as in airplanes with no engine).

Already had my first flight this weekend and it was fuking awesome!

There is a military airbase about 15 km from here and on saturday and sunday the base is available for the gliders to use (not all day long, cause sometimes a plane has to arrive or depart. Last saturday it was 1 plane which had to depart). In the summer you can also glide on tuesdays and thursdays in the evening. I'm not an actual member YET, but they were looking for new members (young members in particular) so that's all ok. I went down to the hotel in our town today to get a job to pay for it (It's €500,- a year which gives you unlimited use of the planes (when available of course and only on the days you are allowed to glide)). Interview was fast and easy and I can start tomorrow =P.

I've talked to several members already and some of them did like 200 flights in their first year so I think that should will be ok too =P. I do need training of course, but that is all provided and is included with the money you pay.

Reason for my new hobby:
- Flying is fuking awesome!
- I want to become a pilot myself (which some of you guys already know =P) and having experience with gliders gives me a better chance of getting accepted to the particular pilot training Im interested in.
- Flying is fuking awesome!

So, what do you guys think? =P The only downside is that I wont be on RZ that much (which I already wasnt :cry:) and almost no time for gaming (though the gliding makes up for it tbh).

in the UK you can join a group called the air cadets they do gliding and flight courses but you also have to do army training aswell but i think it would still be cheaper than 500 a year :P

:rofl: I doubt I can use a laptop during flight (there's SO much you need to concentrate on O_o). Though you are on the ground alot of the time aswell so that would be ok =P. So unless it's the 2 of you in 1 plane (there are planes with 2 seats) I wouldnt recommend it =P

firstly your brothers strange, the air cadets is a volontary organisation that encourages you to do national service when youre 16 and does your brother really want to fight against our good old 'Harman'

Yea =P I'm also stupid though, cause I was only recently aware they had a glider 'club' in the area O_o And I always thought it would be god damn expensive.

people in the RAFCCF ( Royal Air Force Combined Cadet Force ) at my school can do that on activity camps but in smaller planes with an instructer

it costs around £6000 to get a pilot licence so 500 euros for gliding as much as u want is relatively cheap

I used to be in air cadets, it sucks. You dont go in planes all the time, far from it really. I joined for a few months and i never even got out of the dam hut. If you want to join a cadets force id say join the proper army, and just get private lessons for flying. Boko you deff did the right thing :) and thats pretty dam cheap considering its what you want to do later on. Good experience :D

More like £10k last time i looked into it. But they pay as a pilot is hellish :)

The training I want to do is like €100.000,- but you get a loan which you have to pay once you get a job as a pilot (if you dont have a job as a pilot yet, you dont have to pay for a long while anyways). But the wage is like €40.000,- to €50.000,- a year so I don't think that's a big problem =P. And currently most people who went through that training got a job immediately or within 2 months time ^__^. But I first need to get through those tests and I'd rather do those with glider experience on my list =)

Firing a laser ain't that much fun really, all you see are some dots where you aim and some stuff melting away with the right equipment :icon6:

Totally awesome boko! Thought about joining the local glider club here as well, but they also charge about 500e / year and it costs a lot of time, both of which I do not have :sad: Still, have fun and try not to crash too often, eh! ;)
