why would u want that? :| windows vista uses 1000mb ram to run? ... it sway worse then win xp to host a server on...
Well.. I used Vista RC1 for a while and also couldn't get it to work, but I don't care anymore. Uninstalled this Linux wannabe and now back on "good old" XP.
5 minutes logged on Vista and it gives me nice advice like "you should close explorer.exe" low memory.. wtf??
how exactly it "does not start"?
no window, quick termination, etc..?
maybe you didn't gave access for it to bind ports.
My experience with Kobold on Vista was..
when I run the WS it opens a window and says wow server started (or something) and doesn't start to load anything.. no crash or anything.. just this window telling me wow server started
PS: Opened all needed ports when windows asked if I should block access for WS, still nothing
I belive he is seriouse, and so am i. Vista takes that much, and have you read what Microsoft says about it?, its them who have told us it will.
I've tested windows vista myself, just the RC1, but still. Its enough to through it to my bin and install Linux, and be happy :) I do not recemend Windows vista at all, not now for this moment. We will see what more appears when it realeses*
If i was you, I would not have so *high* hopes for it. It may become better after it has been patched and so on* you all know how win xp was when it first got realesed? Well if you want to solve this, you have to try everything you got, otherwize you will not make it. Be aware how much *RAM* it will eat, not enough that Windows vista takes, but if you get the server running, it will take more. And if you are going to run the client on it to? No way, you are gonna make it!
~cheers~
thats truh
if you wanno vista and... you have to make your pc a BEAST lots of ram and a Core ² dou E6.... then you are like 85´% good to go... i'm getting some money and then i by me a Core ² duo conroe E6900 Exrteme and 2048 mb ddr2I have 2048 ram and Nvidea 7950 gx2 blizz but my cpu is to slow heheheh and it eats 1024 mb ram lol seeya soon [/QUOTE]
Vista is crap tbh. Its a failed attempt at a good idea.
I am fortunate to be on the MS beta so I get allot of crap coming in my post like the Vista beta's and I am not impressed by the current RC release.
In a nutshell they had a really good idea but it became too much to manage. People realized that for MS to revive the Windows desktop market they would have to create the OS from scratch which can't happen as financially it is not feasible.
So they decided to improve on XP and add in some all important features - remember MS aimed the OS purely at the business market and then had a development arm take the release and rehash it for the consumer market (which is why there are 5 flavours of Vista).
Then along came Linux with GLX, AIGLX, Compiz and Cairo and bam MS thought omg wtf is going on. So you had the Glassy and 3D Flip features added. Enough to fool people for a while but for pro users its just plain annoying.
Here is the funny thing, I can fire up Debian Etch with a customized Gnome desktop, full 3D support thanks to Aiglx and Compiz and my PC barely breaks a sweat, and all this while running Cedega and XOffice to play windows games and run stuff like MS Office.
I do the same in Windows and it suddenly demands everything from my machine.
My advice is stick to windows XP SP2, its as good as your gonna get from MS. If you want the Vista looks download the Vista Makeover which will transform XP into Vista and give you the glassy transparency effect - all works great as well.
As to the OP's question, your having isseus because Vista uses multiple layers of security, you need to open up the Group Policy config but its hardwork so I would google how to do it. Vista's security policy is supposidly beefed up but I found it plain annoying as it locks down allot of features due to the security policy so if an application is not designed to work with Vista it will simply fail.
The hack involves allot of changes but it essentially bins the Vista security and reverts it back to XP style... like I said its a bitch to sort out.
the problem of this only can be....(Kobold don't run on Vista)
^^what do you think...?^^
I think it's becouse Windows Vista up to its release date only support "ONE PRGRAM" I don't know the name of it... but it's so...xD
