mIRC sharing of files

Where can you find lots of people sharing movies/ music with each other etc?
how do i join? how does it work? etc :)
if anyone's an expert here, care to share your knowledge? O.o
P.S I know the basics, but best to explain everything, coz i'm no expert and maybe someone can help :)

irc means internet relay chat, basically it's a chat program, but you can send stuff to each other too ^^
