Guild Wars Questions

Hello All,
I have just purchased guild wars today and yeah i did it because it was on special and what the heck just 30$. So anyways currently im on dial up because i went over my 10gb limit, (back to full speed in 2 days)

So i installed it and waited it for to update after installation, so i waited for like 4-5 hours just for a 70mb file to be downloaded (4800 files) so i was full happy when it was done, but then i created a char and started, here were it anoyed me ANOTHER download which said about 8000 files so i said stuff it.

Reason why im posting is that does it do this everytime i go onto a different map or load gw? and could a waste alot of bandwidth after playing 2 weeks non-stop? and also if they gave me 2 cds what the hell did they put on it? because people who have dial up gotta put up with damn long waits (if it did download something every time u joined a map)
Anyways im guessing its a good game and i cant wait yet thats my only option right now:raincloud
Also i have 10gb limit so how much would you think i would use?

gah did a big reply tot his and then the forum fuxed up :P

basically i think thoes were just updates u were downloading, happens everytime you first install a new online game. after the innitial updates, you should only get new ones about once a month (or less frequent)

Well theres a shitload of updates you are probably getting. especially if you got one of the older games (Prophecies or factions) since those have been out longer and you missed the sorrow's furnace update and well like 50 million other updates lol. Anyway jsut be patient i heard the updates take a while to laod on dial-up.

well here is it... the game is a streaming client which means ur downloading things continually which also means every map u play on all the necessary files for the map are downloaded… this is one off unless there has been a update for that past of the map/zone…

this means when u started the game 70mb if the file was just the character select screen… (sorry to burst ur bubble :() and now it will download the cut scene which is thos files… after the cut scene is done it gonna download the next part… etc

all in all u got a lot of downloading to do… the best way go download the whole game is to logout and keep the game at the login screen you will see it hide the HUD which makes it like a screen saver, doing this it will download all the files… or u could put the game down and play a game that don’t use ur internet connection while it downloads…

btw here is a tip my game folder is 3.73 GB so it’s a long download… but I got all the GW games so… could be less for ya :P

try installing of the disc also... it will reduce the amount of file needed to down...

i got Prophecies and i did install from both discs do i have to leave cd 2 in or something? or it will just download. Also if i closed the window like after 20% will it resume it downloads? or start all over again?

Currently my GW folder is 1.4Gb with 3 files, so looks like 1gb to download lol. Also what does that Hide UI thingy?

hehe prophecies takes 4ever to dl all them updates. hide ui hides all the stuff on the screen to make the background a screensaver ^_^ if u close it, it starts all over again

thats the factions client and even if you download the fullt hing you still gotta update it by downlaoding stuff so that link isn't too much help.

its factions and prophecies. i used the exact same client when i was still playing. and yes you still gotta download stuff, but at least its not 2k+ files per zone.
